well, you never wish for any player to be injured. if you want to be the best, you've got to play against the best. having detroit have all their best players, and us beating them would be satisfactory!
ya, if they aren't injured, and we are injured, what's the consequence, you gota always think ahead and eliminate threats to give yourself better chances. so in that case forget about beating them head to head, just beat them at least.
I dunno. If we see Detroit in round 2, I personally think we match up well against them. Remember that year we had the WCE (Bertuzzi, Naslund, Morrison), and Cloutier in net? If not for Cloutier's mistake, I really think that the team could've gone all the way that year (if I'm not mistaken, Detroit actually won the cup that year, yes?)

that was 01/02, that is a distant past I still remember. We were up 2-0 in the series, and they dominated everything there on. Of course, then there was 03/04 against the flames.
We now have a world-class goaltender in Luongo. The man's on top of his game. After the 4 game sweep of the Blues, his statistics are the following:
save percentage is at .962, his GAA is at 1.16, he's allowed 5 goals in 4 games, and he already has recorded 1 shut-out in 4 games.
The Canucks didn't play overly well in the 2nd period tonight. After the Blues got their 1st goal, they pretty much dominated the play until Alex Burrows scored the game winner with 19 seconds left of overtime.
With Luongo playing the way he is, with 7-9 days of rest (depending on the other series, of course), and having a healthy line-up again (Mats, and Salo) - I think we'll be fine no matter who we match up with. I like our chances against Detroit, or any other team for that matter. We're just playing really well right now.

it's too bad the Canucks have such a long lay off. on one hand, i'd like to continue to watch the 'nucks play, on the other hand, i also want them to be well rested, so that they can heal from their wounds, and continue to be healthy (or healthier than the opposing team). if we stay healthy in the 2nd round, it's not unrealistic for us to get to the 3rd round! this city will go absolutely nuts if that happens.
i doubt detroit's street will be like this even if they win 4-0 in the finals...

BTW, to whomever was contemplating our round 2 matchup earlier... we can't face SJ until the conference finals. If SJ comes back to win against the Ducks, we play Detroit. If SJ loses, we play the winner of CHI/CGY.
