But they're involved (at least in part) becaue it makes good business sense for them from a personal brand standpoint. On the most elementary level, JM hasn't been able to crack the downtown market (most of her success is west-end), an area that isn't "owned" by a particular broker or agency at present. Once a turnaround takes hold in earnest, properties and projects would seem likely to shift toward a proven performer wo knows the local niche, and the payday would be healthy. And maybe she just likes a challenge. LD I think cares but also sees the value in being in the mix, having his name attached to infrastructure projects and being seen as a facilitator for a healthy city, growth in a contracting market, and progressive urban thinking. He may only get one more kick at higher office, and even if that doesn't play out as he'd like, this direction could be a shrewd Plan B.
But mainly this is a transparent ruse by two liberal politicians in civilian garb to grab back Hamilton Centre for the Grits and exact proxy revenge for Stan Keyes. Watch the revised blueprints for a 24 hr think tank.
