I have to agree. The renderings looked considerably more elegant than the finished product. The restaurant out front doesn't even match the main building.

I think we were all excited and rather fortunate to see this building rise. We Atlantans are so picky of our decorative buildings. It is rather unfortunate about the "dumpster-hider" on top however. This building is a "butta-face", but from the neck down she is hot.

Mansion on Peachtree

Say what you want, but the restaurant at the bottom of the Mansion, which is really in front of the Hotel is doing incredible business. Every time I have been in that are, the place is packed. That is also an expensive restaurant.

they initially had a pretty cool lighting concept going up all sides of the mansion now there are no lights at all. I'm sure its not cheap to install all of those lights. why not use them?

And dont even get me started on the Georgia Pacific building downtown! I still get mad everytime I see that. I would think the city would contact the company and ask them to pleeeeeease re-light the back of the building. That totally transforms the skyline. Imagine if they suddenly decided to stop lighting the top of the BofA building.

The restaurant is great and, as you say, very successful. I'm just commenting on the building. In an ultra high end project like this, I would have expected the restaurant structure to match the main tower in terms of color, style and materials.

And the sales at the Mansion aren't doing well either. I wonder how much of that is due to the housing market or if there's other factors? Thoughts?

Also, thanks for the pano shot joecool, very nice. It makes me think/hope that when the beltline gets built, it turns out as envisioned as a ring of semi-dense urban developments around the city. Atlanta has so much potential to be a great city!

I kinda like the Atlantic crown. Certainly better than the disappointment at the Mansion, which is a more high-end project. I didn't realize the Atlantic had so many details. It's a shame you can really appreciate (or see) them from the ground.

The Atlantic looks fine, people are just bored I think.
however, the Mansion is definitely a let down!
I wish an insider could tell us why then went cheap.
Maybe we Atlantans could get some closure. lol

I believe the wealthy have no problem with the crown. Based on a few people I know.

The Atlantic has really turned out nicely. I think the crown is splendid considering and it is an asset to Atlantic Station. As far as the Mansion, the developer is very tight-fisted with it's buildout allowance. Regents is alot more gracious. Other than that I see no other reason for the MOP not to be selling other than most people in the price range are being really guarded with tangential spending. Many purchasers were doing so as second, third or fourth homes. It's a tight market out there now. The delivered product, however, is quite excellent.

The St Regis...all I can say is that it exceeded my expectations and they were really high for this development.

The Mansion is clearly a world class building and one of the best additions to the city's skyline in the 2000's. Too bad they didn't finish off details like the crown and the restaurant structure a little better. Maybe they'll fix that in time.

Kevin Grieco has some pretty incredible pictures of the St. Regis on his luxury condo and loft blog.

First, i wanted to correct you when you said, at least once or twice, that "I" deverted this thread the last time from construction to other crap - this is NOT TRUE, as quoted here, SEVENSIXTWO came out in post 302 with that FIRST argumentative, underhanded, cheap, INSULTING remark about ME - which came out of nowhere & had nothing to do with construction.

So, for you to claim that "I" started getting people off topic is completely false.

Second, i understand that you felt you needed to suspend someone on here, i get that. But why you would suspend ME & not the person who started this crap --- for the life of me, i dont get it, maybe you can be a little more concisive next time & not pick on the guy DEFENDING himself.

Oh, & hopefully the "picking on conservatives for being conservatives" crap will stop.

That's all i have on that.

Atlantic's exterior adornments are somewhat regal looking but I cant believe Novare had originally planned on that crown for this flagship project. And how did we end up with the black windows? Blue would be so much better. On the upside it looks like Two Alliance's crown is going to be pretty nice.
THANK YOU, finally someone said it - that seems no matter what they do, color wise, or design wise, the top of the building seems so BLAND. I love the Atlantic's crown EXECPT for the color.

Anyone know why they thought it would be too expensive to simply PAINT it gold?

BTW, if you look at it from a distance, or simply glance at it real quick, the "trick" of combining TAN on top of BROWN creates a "GOLD" overall look - neat but CHEAP n stupid, frankly.

Oh, & i dunno about those BROWN ornamentations - they look great but the color - yeeesh.

I kind of feel the only 2 problems with Mansions crown is it isnt high up enough to simply COVER that mechanical stuff on top. And everyone's seen how there's about a 6 foot GAP between the roof & where the crown begins ---- how CHEAP???
