So I heard the Equitable building is going up for auction. Anyone have any details or heard about that?

maybe the next owner won't be so eager and willing to sell the naming rights replacing the iconic equitable logo across the top. also, i definitely hope that the hgi rendering above was just a general idea of what it will look like... yikes.

First thing I noticed is that Dekalb (#2 in population) only gets 4-5 million which is less than any county listed other than Cherokee Co. It seems if you are represented by someone with a (D) after their name you were shut out. Is this stimulus money?

I'm a little put off by the fact that every project that is listed here when finished... is done. There is not a penny for the Beltline that has the potential to spurr development for decades. Nothing for MARTA or the parks of GA. Correct me if I'm wrong but I see nothing here that is being invested in that will enspire further mass developments as a direct result of the initial investment.

Hey guys,

I see my name brought up a few times in regards to complaints against Mark. I used to delete 80% of the posts on this thread and everyone complained until they were blue in the face. Then I just let it run wild because I got tired of getting 15 PM's a week complaining that their post about something not on topic was deleted.

I still lurk and check to see if there is any good news but when I got bombarded with complaints I basically gave up my status as a moderator because I don't have the time to sit on the internet and argue about what is or isn't on topic.

Hopefully we'll see some things get off the ground and we won't have to ask who owns the Checkers on 10th St 100 times to keep ourselves entertained.

In the meantime, please respect M II A II R II K because he is only trying to keep the thread on topic and not let it run rampant with bickering and unrelated chat.

Are they fools or thieves (or both)? And is it possible that DeKalb's corruption problems have something to do with them receiving so little money?

It has only become a "prime" lot in the past 10 years. The owner isn't an idiot...he knows he is sitting on a gold mine and is probably just biding his time.

The corruption stems from the "former" county CEO Vernon Jones who is gone now. Then there is the jail/sheriff stuff, but one only needs to look at the last couple of years of FULTON Co. and they pale in comparison in as much as cronyism, absurd property tax assessments, and county commissioners pet projects (Queen Emma Darnell...as she has been called is one of them who caused the Library fiasco that ended up costing MILLIONS). Dekalb cant even touch Fulton on the corruption side of things

Corner Piedmont/Cheshire Bridge Rd

I was told today by the one tenant left in that strip mall that the plans to demolish and rebuild a mixed use development have been shelved possibly canceled. It was a firm out of MSP that was doing this (I dont know the name), but they stupidly forced all the tenants to move (the economy was already tanking at that point). So, now they have an almost empty strip mall producing almost no income with one tenant (the pot and pan)...not too sharp

construction bonds

re: previous ? about that construction funding, it's a bond package included in 2010 budget. i've not seen details on the terms of these bonds (funny, you'd think 'quality' reporting or good gov't comms would at least provide at least a reference to specifics on the issuance)

by county (though i noticed a $ disconnect w/ the project list)
http://gov.georgia.gov/00/press/detail/0,2668,78006749_129886711_130636053,00.html

more detailed construction project list:
http://gaeducation.blogspot.com/2009/01/governor-perdue-announces-bond-package.html

the budget itself can of course be found:
http://www.legis.ga.gov/legis/2009_10/house/budget/budgetDocs.htm
