yeah, the courthouse is better than what was sitting there. And lets be clear: If Mayor Wynn got his way and they left the Intel shell to develop it into a high rise condo.. we would still have the intel shell sitting there.

135 feet isn't bad. That would make it just a few feet shorter than the Milago Condominiums, or just a few feet taller than the Whole Foods HQ.

I remember seeing the renderings for the Intel office building, believe me, we're better off with the courthouse. the Intel building wasn't anything to write home about architecturally. Think, CSC, but a little taller, maybe 3 more floors. Judging from the rendering, I'd estimate it was supposed to be about ~140 feet tall. Architecturally, it looked like just about any suburban office building, and I don't think it would have been worthy of downtown. Not only that, but I doubt it would have had retail. I can't remember if retail was part of the project, but my guess, it wasn't.

Was just checking out the website for La Vista on Lavaca (hate that name, by the way). This was the one project I didn't want to see built, but I guess it's under construction...or at least that's what the emerging projects list indicates.

I was hoping to see some revisions to the original plan on their website, but aside from a tiny rendering in the building's name/logo, there's no exterior renderings at all. And aside from a few floor plans, all they have for the interior is this enchanting "virtual tour". Oh, and I see they've gotten themselves a nice theme line of "Downtown Living for Grown-up Texans". So I guess they don't intend to market to younger people or out-of-staters. Good plan, particularly in this economy.

Great stuff Mopac! The core that has developed and still developing along Cesar Chavez and 2nd is amazing. I was out by the "Awful House" view at 71 and Riverside, Saturday and to see the cluster that has developed was only the 3 builidings 2 years ago. Now added to the lower downtown cluster is Four Seasons, Ashton, Austonian, 360, Monarch, Spring. Yea Austin!

Gotta love those pictures from both Mopacs and Priller. The view from the SE has been the token angle for so many DT Austin skyline photos. And from the look of those shots the local TV stations should be updating there lead in pictures soon. Great stuff as usual guys.

Strange rendering, the artist has made the building appear isolated like a late night truck stop. Is that a mountain in the back?

I like the art-deco-ish lights on the side.

According to the latest city emerging project status, there are a few that are scheduled to start late in 2009 -- mainly the Westin hotel, Seaholm redevelopment, and Ovation.

Whether that really happens?

There's one other project mentioned that I know nothing about. Block One? Says it will be mixed use, 140 condos, on about half a block. That should be a tall building. Looks like it's on E. 5th, across the street from Progress Coffee and the running store. Is there any more info on it?

The Westin Hotel at The Domain?
