Interesting article. Nothing we didn't already know was mentioned but it's cool the cc is already getting some international attention.

It's a shame that such beautiful pics were butchered like that.

The distorted pics are sort of funny, not just the center but the other downtown buildings as well, even the glimpses of Stanley Park in the one shot. Gives it a very "artistic" view.

Looks like the conceptual sets for some new futuristic movie . . . "Vancouver as the Latrocian Outpost in Delta Quadrant Sector Five, Galactic Senate Chambers"

Was walking to work today and notice a mini science world type structure next to the Convention centre. Anyone have any ideas as to what that is?

Vancouver Convention Centre | West - public realm photos

Whether it was planned or just spontaneously happened, today around noon the grounds of the new Convention Centre were overrun with people exploring the new seawall, plaza, street, etc. I came back mid afternoon with my camera and found that some of it had been blocked off and the weather had turned sour. Never the less, here are some shots I took.

dont tell me they try to save money by buying fewer word blocks...

but vancouver convention center pretty much means the same thing.

i have to say the convention center is not very symbolic in the skyline.

I was one of those people on the plaza and seawall at lunch. They opened it up earlier in the day, I'm really happy with the look of itbut the finish is quite lacking, the pavers are pretty loose and need more sand, there were numerous (over a dozen) lights already burnt out, 3 glass panels on the overhang are still broken. On a positive the glass with the sign now has art on it and it looks better. The whole project will be fantastic when it's done, but there is still lots of work to do.

Cool

I guess there really is no pleasing everyone. On one hand, I have seen folks on here decry the lack of public gathering space countless times. Then when a gathering spot is created right downtown with fantastic views, folks point out that a large structure could have been built there

I'm pretty sure he's referring to the pic in which Shangri-la is visible and there is an empty space in the skyline, and not referring to the plaza itself.

Great shots, SFU.

The amount of new public space this project has created in the downtown is pretty mind-boggling. I likey!
