Scheduled to speak are Alabama Gov. Bob Riley, U.S. Sen. Richard Shelby, U.S. Rep. Jo Bonner, Mobile City Council President Reggie Copeland and E.B. Peebles III, chairman of the Maritime Museum Board of Trustees. Musical accompaniment will be provided by the United States Navy Band New Orleans.

Slated to open in late 2010, the Maritime Museum will become the centerpiece of Michael C. Dow Mobile Landing, which is already home to the Arthur R. Outlaw Convention Center, Alabama’s only cruise ship terminal, and Cooper Riverside Park.

In addition to restoring public access to the downtown waterfront, the Maritime Museum will be only the third maritime museum in the U.S. to feature hands-on, interactive exhibits instead of a collection of maritime artifacts and memorabilia.

GREAT News! And it looks like the have a very respectible lineup of people attending.

Any chance that the Middle Bay Lighthouse could end up here? I seem to remember that it was destined for Battleship Park. It seems a much better fit for the Maritime Museum if there is room...

Perhaps an updated one would be even better.

Nice !! and on the last pic did I see a pedestrian bridge ?! If so good ,it fits in well with the them at first I didn`t like and preferd the one proposed for Montgomery but with the nautical theme it goes in well.

Would be nice to have a river walk like most river cites connected to the convention center and the museum, but that is a pipe dream. The place looks nice!

I'm so damned jealous. That is going to be a very sexy (and big) museum. Mobile announces it and gets it done again. I'm just used to people announcing things. I didn't realize they could actually be done afterwards. Kudos.

USA FOOTBALL TO PLAY N.C. STATE; JAGS ANNOUNCE 2009 SCHEDULE

MOBILE, Ala. – University of South Alabama Director of Athletics Joe Gottfried announced Tuesday the school has signed a three-game contract with North Carolina State as well as the school’s first-ever football schedule, one that currently includes a total of seven games all slated to be played in Mobile at Ladd-Peebles Stadium on Saturdays this fall.

There is a possibility the school will add one more road contest that would be announced at a later date.

The deal with N.C. State includes two games in Raleigh and one in Mobile. The Jaguars will visit Carter-Finley Stadium on Sept. 17, 2011, and Sept. 15 the following fall, while the Wolfpack will take on USA in Mobile on Sept. 5, 2015.

NCSU has played in six bowl games this decade after earning an invitation to the Papajohns.com Bowl in December.

Hopefully they will be playing in a nice stadium by then.

^^^ Wow, that is awesome for USA. No offense to South Alabama (I'll be rooting for their success), but man...can you imagine UF, Texas or the like agreeing to travel to Ladd Stadium anytime soon (financially)? I didn't realize how much lower a level NC state is on to find that acceptable, even if it is 2 home and one away. Nevertheless, I might have to show up and root like hell for the Jags in that one.

It would be a good look if they would throw in a mini Maritime themed carnival type rides on the side.

People do it all the time in B.R'a for LSU so, whats the big deal? Ladd is good for now, something to get it started and then it will get bigger eventually. Football is big in the south...

Well, one school is a charter member of the Southeastern Conference and the other school does not even have a DI program yet.

Its a big deal to get a BCS school to come to your city. It will fill the stands plus it shows the city that they are serious about their program and have the ability to lure in big teams.

And LSU doesnt play big teams -- they play directional LA schools.

That sounds suspiciously like another team of SEC related "Tigers" that reside here in Alabama. Of course I can b*tch about their schedule because I am a graduate!

Tim, yeah the big team travelling comment definitely isn't related to the city or a slap at USA, the stadium or anything like that, it is jst that the LSU's, Oklahoma's and so forth of the world operate on a different budget than the rest of the non-bcs cfb world and the system makes it tough to overcome. Heck, most of them are willing to pay over a million bucks for a "small" team to come to their house than travel anywhere for an extra game. I fully expect the Jags to get a lot of support and should be able to get plenty of competitive talent year after year from this area. But it is an uphill battle to ever project SEC-type status. Then again, S.Florida was able to get hooked up with the Big East and get somewhere pretty quickly. Maybe USA will get that kind of opportunity sooner than later and I'll be rooting for them. Until then, Troy is a pretty good model from the Sun Belt Conf that USA plans to be a part of in 2013. They have pretty good support, put some pretty tough teams on the field regularly, make bowls, but mostly have to play the Alabama's of the world away. But they put up a good fight a lot. And I think they did get Oklahoma State to visit a couple years ago. That NC St was willing to sign up for a 2015 visit say something really good about people's expectations, IMO.
