Why is it taking so long to construct the framing for the pentouse? It would be really nice to see the full massing & height of this building once that penthouse is done.

I think that all they are constructing right now is the crown which will wrap around the mechanical on the roof and will be lit up at night.

He was probably referring to the mechanical penthouse, a name for the part of the crown on the building that encloses mechanical equipment on the roof.

That would be kind of weird... living in a penthouse on the top of an office building. I can see the elevator ride right now:

Law firm employee sees man in elevator in casual clothing
Law firm employee: Who do you work for? They must be pretty laid back.
Guy: No... I live above all of you.

Mixed-use buildings usually have separate lobbies and elevators. Like the one that was being planned for the corner of State Street and 100 South.

The penthouse I was referring to is the mechanical penthouse. Penthouse doesn't necessarily mean a residential unit.

I'm grateful that 222 got built at all, and I do think it's an attractive building for what it is. But I wonder if I'll EVER be able to look at it and not think "if only it were taller..."

I've thought that too Jedi- but for me theres only 2 heights that would be suitable for 222, and thats several floors higher than Wells Fargo, or the height that it currently is. If taller than Wells Fargo it would help vary the skyline in that part of town (and not to mention raise the bar for Salt Lake's tallest). But at the height that it is, it doesn't obscure that classy pinnacle of One Utah, and I just love seeing that copper pyramid shimmer in the sunlight. 222 is one awesome piece of infill IMO.

I love that last shot, T-Mac...like the Monaco and 222 are huddled together for warmth on a cold morning. Great angle you got there.

YAY!

They're finally putting cladding on the back!

They sure seem to be taking longer than necessary though to get it finished. Does anybody know why it's taking so long to clad?
