The color is completely dreadful.

The same goes for the Spectrum towers, the Ritz, and the TV Towers. Great idea, poor execution.

I love the orange colour on Cooper's, and think the buildings are handsome. But the yellow really does bring to mind the yellow insulation you see everywhere. I'm glad there isn't any more than there is.

I hate the sprinklings of random glass colour on the TV towers though. It just looks goofy to me, like a big high-rise of elementary school classrooms. Maybe they can tape children's stick drawings to the glass balcony panels, (some of which are coloured as well

I want to like it, but I just don't. The TV Towers seem "needlessly busy" as well, with lots of angles and points and curves and sections and awnings, etc, but no real focus. I like asymmetrical buildings if well executed, but some of the new construction downtown recently seems to be packed with "flourishes" substituting for architectural impact. The Ritz (NOT to be confused with the canceled Ritz Carlton residences project) is like that as well. I notice it everytime I'm in the vicinity, but not in a good way.

I appreciate the desire to add colour and architectural variation, but some buildings just seems excessive and busy without adding a lot of maturity or sophistication to the cityscape.

That's my opinion, anyway.

I like the orange on Cooper's too.
Hate the yellow though. Looks good on that London building - but the placement on the Cooper's building make it look like exposed insulation.

The only bit I don't like about TV Towers is the mauve on the taller south tower. The busy-ness of the townhouse block has grown on me. At the podium, the ledges and stairs and elevator shaft add to the busy-ness and soften the juxtaposition of the boxy podium and the curvilinear towers. It probably would have looked more awkward without the busy-ness.

I also like the orange but the yellow is quite unnecessary. At least they attempted to make something bolder (by Vancouver standards). The podium/shorter "tower" remind me of something you'd see in Europe.

As for the TV Towers, I quite like them. I like the red bits and blue balconies on the shorter one and the mauve on the taller one is starting to grow on me. The podium is looking pretty good too. Overall they're a nice change from the norm and I kind of like that they're generating criticism that isn't just the usual accusations of 'blandness' we're so used to hearing here.

I'm pretty sure Broadway Station renovations have started. As for the other ones (Metrotown and Main), not too sure.

No visible signs so far on Metrotown. Not sure about Main.

I would guess that Broadway would be, as they have been going since November and have already removed some of the wire mesh to put in some glass. As for Main and Metrotown, I doubt it, as aren't they extending the platforms?

The presentation from January's UDI meeting is now online. Nothing new for those of us following, but an interesting read for the rest of you.

http://vancouver.ca/commsvcs/planning/corejobs/pdf/research/udipresentation.pdf

Also contruction of the Habour Green restaurant will being in Sep/10 and be open in spring 2012. These are the stats
Roof Terrace level: 60 outdoor seats (summer only)
Upper (Restaurant) level: 100 indoor seats and 32 outdoor seats
Lower (Dining/Bar) level: 70 indoor seats and 36 outdoor seats
TOTAL: 170 indoor seats and 128 outdoor seats

Oh and someone was wondering about the Dali-lama centre, it's not going to happen, apparently they were hoping the government would donate the SE corner of Robson and Hornby which they have other plans for. They also wanted the government to contribute funds to help build it.

Thanks for posting that Jlousa, not much new but nice to see it combined so concisely in the PDF. It really appears as though the city is taking the issue of the limited viability of office development quite seriously, as they are not only pushing to limit residential and zone for jobs, but are trying to once again make office development an attractive venture for investors. Good to see they are looking at implementing multiple policies to encourage growth, rather than just restricting residential, rezoning the land for office and hoping for the best.

Also any idea why parcel H was specifically highlighted in the discussion for a minimum of 2.0FSR, I am pretty sure the site is already home to a 20 or so storey Govt. of Canada office building... Can't imagine that being re-developed any time soon.

Thanks. It's going to be a great addition to the waterfront once completed.

30-day Notice of Completion for CAMERA by Intracorp

Intracorp has sent out 30-day Notice of Completion documents to purchasers at their most recent South Granville building at 8th and Pine known as CAMERA.

Here's a few recent-ish pics from their website:

I should be able to post more pics in a few weeks time.

^That should technically be posted in the Vancouver General Updates thread since it is regarding a project outside of downtown. This thread is for downtown discussion. Just keep that in mind for next time. Thanks for the update though.

Perhaps the two thread names should be made a bit less ambiguous.

Well the definitions of downtown are somewhat ambiguous too... many consider the Broadway corridor to be downtown as well.
