Smile finally a new Elysian video

Hello fellow Chicago Skyscraperfans and friends,

after my last update in November it was time again for a new video for this nice looking tower:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BeZDSpzLyr0

Music: Cygnus X - Superstring ( Rank 1 Radio Edit)
Music2: Dream Dance Alliance - A Day at the Beach

Enjoy

Charlie Trotter scraps planned restaurant

"...The celebrity chef and the Elysian Hotel & Private Residences have severed ties more than two years after announcing an agreement to open a Trotter-run restaurant in the condominium-and-hotel tower at 11 E. Walton St..."

"...The restaurant was to be Mr. Trotter’s first here since he opened his signature five-star restaurant in Lincoln Park in 1987. The chef also has two restaurants in Las Vegas. The loss of Mr. Trotter is a blow to the Elysian, a 60-story tower that includes 188 hotel suites and 52 condos. Adding to the Elysian’s challenges, the hotel market is rapidly deteriorating as business and leisure travelers cut back..."

Very disappointing. Trotter's prospective restaurant was one of the few redeeming qualities of this development.

I'm curious as to how many purchasers identified Trotter's as an "essential element" in their contract and now have a legal option out of it.

Trotter's at the Elysian was a key selling point (and no doubt key buy decision point) for many purchasers in this building.

I'm not sure. They announced Trotter's at the end of 2006 I believe but they've been selling this building for years and in every press release they quote the same % sold.

I think the authentic metal for the type of architecture they're imitating would be zinc. I'm no expert, but that looks more like some sort of colored steel to me.

Nice work Andy, as in all your videos, you do a great job of putting the individual images into a unified, evolving record. Well done!

A top tier restaurant may be an "essential element", but I can't imagine the sales contract mentioning Trotter specifically. The developer would be pretty foolish to guarantee Charlie Trotter. And even if a purchaser tried to claim it was an essential element, I can't imagine a court finding the loss of Trotter to be material as long as there is a replacement.

I kinda like this building in the beginning but they've lost me with the white window frams. What the hell happened? Did they run out of black ones?

Yeah, its a definite NoNo that the window frames on the tower don't match those on the base or the balconies...

There's just so much wrong going on. All it needs is a cherry on top, like a discount on bright red aluminum roofing.

Heck, that would be an improvement, at least at that point you could make the argument that this design is some sort of bizarre dadaist statement against the "art" of architecture...

Hey as long as we're griping, anyone else bummed about the very low unit density?
