Brod3211:

The courthouse is getting underground parking. I think it's around 125 spaces.

There's been some talk in the paper about an arena, but nothing concrete from any source that actually has credibility.

As for Ashford, I've heard Spring.

Moncton is NOT the next Toronto, Moncton is a street in Toronto... It's not even Halifax and like another thread member said... Moncton is as relevant as Kamloops or Kingston in the market when companies are thinking about growth and expansion. I mean are you serious? Any of you been outside New Brunswick!? This is my last post regarding this subject, because at this point it is pointless!

I have been to New York City , Toronto , Montreal, Edmonton ,L.A. I have been places. I said Amen to that because this is a Forum for people to find out whats going on in the city, and to talk just because one person makes a comment about a certain store coming here or them wanting it to come here doesn't mean they are insane,Everyone has hopes and dreams of bigger and better things we all know that right now we should be happy with what stores we are getting and have.

It was never in my intention to offend you or to put you down on your opinions I'd just rather not have everyone fight over Ikea or which store is High end and which aren't. This group is deffiantly lucky to have someone on the inside of Champlain who can give us up to date status on whats happening there.

I feel that everyone is entitled to the own opinion and that it shouldn't be shot down just because of our size.

Big deal, they are getting another lingerie store, they already have two...bring in things you don't already have to make it more 'complete'. Also, before you say I know not what I'm talking about I worked in that mall for 4 years, the rent's are ridiculously astronomical (hell it was cheaper for the Future Shop to buy land and build a 'bigger' building than stay in Champlain). You seem to be a 'downer', we are talking about store we'd like to see, and all you can say is 'oh that store would never come here'...well, some have, and more will...we said at one time we'd never get The Gap, Old Navy, American Eagle, H&M and more, but they are here. A&F are not 'high end', they are no more high end than the Gap (I shop at A&F often, I'm wearing A&F right now), Hollister is like The Gap's, Old Navy. Moncton in the last decade has been bucking most 'trends' and not stopping anytime soon.

As far as the CFL...again, downer. This is VERY plausible. First supporting a CFL franchise is NOT that big of a deal from an 'owners' standpoint. The salary cap on a franchise is about $4 million, the average salary of players is about $35,000 / year...any 'Irving or Cyr' type could support that. The stadium was designed so that it is 'expandable' to around 20,000, which is roughly the requirement of a CFL team. As far as drawing a crowd, there are 1.6 million people within a 2.5 hour drive of Moncton, there are 600,000 within the same distance of Halifax. People will drive from Saint John, Fredericton, Miramichi, etc to Moncton to watch a game on the weekend...they won't drive to Halifax. The average price of a CFL single game ticket is $35 - 79, season tickets are in the $300-750 range...Wildcat's season tickets are $473! Saying the CFL is not feasible here is really small minded and silly.
This whole agrumnet that Moncton should get a team because they are central is just silly. You need a seaon ticket base and I don't think a city of 126,000 poeople has it. You pretty much have to entirey depend on people from other places. I really don't see a whole lot of people driving up from Halifax for to many games really or from other places around NS. Amherst and Truro maybe.

Oh and I'm not sure where you get 600,000 people within 2.5 hours drive it would more like 1 million.

Of course, there is nothing even closed to be high-end around here. Secondly, I just dont understand all the hype about A&F, I mean, I would prefer having La Maison Simons way before.

@Champlain was also right when he pointed out "Bix Box" usually don't draw high-end stores, you ought to take a look at the links below, you will understand what he tried to explain.

100% agree with you, and I too want a constructive discussion with all here or else there is no point for me to discuss and inform on anything here. I think that everyone needs to be reasonable in their statements and back their info with some facts, which I did on most of my posts. Also, since I'm not originally from the Moncton area, I never understood why is everyone against Champlain Place all the time, bashing it & wanting to see the place fail, very odd since everyone here is so PRO Moncton...

The only actual requirements are a stadium with 25,000 seats and an ownership group, which is solvent. Moncton is working with the CFL and actively pursuing both requirements.

Halifax hosted an exhibition in 2005, they chose not to strike while the iron was hot. Why not? When there is a will, there is a way.

Expect a blitz for a franchise from Moncton when their exhibition game sells out. When there is a will, there is a way.

I keep hearing about how the high rent is at Champlain Place, I can't seem to find the prices anywhere. Does anyone actually know what the rent is there?

Thank you, you and I could get along here. Also, your statement regarding Simons; Place Ste-Foy has Simons, Holt Renfrew, Les Ailes, Zara, yes people that is good example of a Canadian upscale mall. Simons reminds me of a version québecoise de Zara actually.
Who knows... Simons or Zara could easily come down to Champlain... one day. There is a difference between upscale & luxury and many don't seem to get that on this board or just think they are synonymous; in this case Les Cours Mont-Royal could be considered luxury, so a notch above upscale, but some of their store are just so-so, so it's a mix of upscale and luxury.

Yes, good point and I don't shop much either, but when you are in this kind of business you need to know retail/real estate/the market/brands, etc... the whole retail world. Also, on any given weekend, alot of men are in Champlain and not just to hold their wives purchases, but yes we want and need more stores for us men, that's true, but no Toys for Big Boys, John Deere or Princess Auto is not coming to Champlain soon though LOL. I must agree with others here; Future Shop was a big loss, but remember that Best Buy which owns Future Shop are in a trend to leave malls and build stand alone locations, so this is not just a Champlain issue. McAllister Place and Regent Mall don't have those either...

The vacancy next to Urban Planet is ongoing, meaning nothing is done yet or can't be announced. Both tenants (2) going to the Don Cherry location were listed on a previous post of mine, however I cannot identify which one is which or when it will open, but don't get your testosterone going because it's not a store targeted for men, sorry.

The rent is confidential and it is not public, you will not find it. It is between each tenant and the owners; Cadillac-Fairview. The rent is fairly high and the rent depends on various factors to determine it, but I'm not at liberty to discuss those or give examples. Cadillac-Fairview is the owner of the mall, it is not related to General Motors if anyone is wondering. The corporate head-office is in Toronto and they own & manage 83 shopping malls & large office towers in Canada, the US and Brazil. All 3 relevant malls in New Brunswick are owned by them; Champlain, Regent & McAllister. Hope this helps.

Moncton is indeed significantly more female than male.

http://www12.statcan.ca/census-recenseme...SearchPR=01&B1=All&GeoLevel=&GeoCode=305

However it's important to note that the big divergence only happens in the 65+ ages, where men tend to die sooner.

Well I think if the second exibition game had happened there may have been momentum but as you know the second one was cancelled due the folding of the Ottawa team that year which makes wonder if a city of about million people can't hold a team how does a much smaller city do it?

Personally, I don't see what the big deal is.

The city is building a 10-20 thousand seat stadium, whether the CFL is interested or not. If a local businessperson is willing to pony up the cash to get it going, why shouldn't the city push for a CFL franchise? I mean, the worst thing that could happen is that it would fail, but then it would only be private money lost anyway. On the off chance that it succeeds in the long run, then all the better.

I guess the way I look at it, if it succeeds, it'll be great for the city. If it fails, oh well. We'd have a privately funded white elephant and nothing more.

And for the record, population alone is a poor indicator of a business venture's likelihood of success. The failure of the team in Ottawa probably had more to do with mismanagement or lack of interest. Hell, if Saskatoon can have a team, it can't be that hard.

Wow, I didn't know it was possible to be so passionate about Champlain Place. The mall sucks anyway. It looks like and contains the same things as 1000 other malls across the country. I wish people would shop on Main and on St. George more. Actually, someone who lives in Moncton should do a downtown retail photo tour.
