Olympic Banners Around the City

As we approch to the Games in 2010, more and more Olympic-related ads
will be up all over the city. Just took some pics of the banners that were
on the streets and bridges of Vancouver and even Richmond.

Here's one in Downtown..

Figured this would be most apporriate place to post this, doesn't sounds like Vanoc is cutting back on it's wayfinding budget. Oh and we'll start to see them starting in Aug.

The Vancouver Organizing Committee for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games has partnered with municipalities and provincial agencies in order to create a temporary signage program which provides all Games client groups (spectators, athletes, media, workforce, etc.) with sufficient
Wayfinding information to move successfully throughout the Greater Vancouver and Whistler corridor areas during the Games.
VANOC and the Project Partners require directional signage specific to the Games that includes but is not limited to;
• VANOC transportation operation areas (depots, compounds, Park & Rides);
• TransLink and BC Transit transportation routes and infrastructures (i.e. Park & Rides, bus depots,transit exchanges);
• Sea-to-Sky corridor and areas in and around the various municipalities of Greater Vancouver;
• Other areas (Celebration Sites, etc.).

The goal of the Urban Domain Games Wayfinding Signage Project is to plan and implement a comprehensive temporary Wayfinding sign program required for the successful staging of the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games in the areas of the Games Theatre that are outside of the
Games venues as outlined in Appendix 2 – Official Competition and Non-Competition Venues.
The key objectives in achieving this goal are:
• To ensure visual uniformity of wayfinding signage throughout the Games Theatre, particularly between the Games venues and the Urban Domain.
• By integrating with VANOC’s Look of the Games DSM, the signage will contribute to the atmosphere of celebration and excitement by providing a positive experience for all Games participants.
• To ensure signage is coordinated and consistent amongst the Project Partners / agencies in order to provide clear and continuous information to the Games client groups.

User group Estimated Number of Signs
VANOC 475
MOT 69
COV 1,030
COR 706 – 997
TransLink 3,378 – 3,598
DWV 250
RMOW TBD (Resort municipality of Whilster)
UBC 67

I've jpeged an attached venue list that I haven't seen posted before.

More than 6,000 signs to help direct Olympic visitors

By Damian Inwood, The Province
March 2, 2009 4:02 PM

More than 6,000 temporary street and transit signs will be put up to help people find their way to the 2010 Olympics.

The signs will include Vancouver 2010 transportation operations at depots, compounds and park-and-rides, TransLink and B.C. Transit routes, municipalities around Greater Vancouver and the Sea-to-Sky corridor and celebration zones.

According to a tender document, TransLink will need between 3,378 and 3,598 signs, Vancouver will need 1,030 signs, Richmond will need between 706 and 997 signs, Vancouver 2010 will need 475 signs, West Vancouver will need 250 signs, the B.C. Ministry of Transport will need 69 signs and the University of B.C. will need 67 signs.

The number of signs needed in Whistler is still to be determined.

The signs need to have "visual uniformity" and integrate Vancouver 2010's "look of the Games."

They will be installed between Aug. 1 this year and Jan. 31, 2010.

The request-for-proposals document lists competition venues in Vancouver, Whistler, West Vancouver and Richmond.

It also lists non-competition venues, including four official hotels, Vancouver International Airport, B.C. Place Stadium, the Main Press Centre at Canada Place and the Olympic Villages at False Creek and in Whistler, celebration sites and three Vancouver practice rinks.
