River span nearing finish

The bridge linking Langley to Maple Ridge should be done a little sooner than expected.

Golden Ears Bridge should be open by the end of June, according to Golden Crossings Constructors Joint Venture spokesperson Ian McLeod.

"Construction is going well," McLeod said. Barring a disaster, he said, cars should be crossing the bridge as summer vacations begin.

The final deck pieces have been placed on the bridge and it awaits a concrete overlay, which can't be poured at zero degrees.

Concrete, however, is being poured daily to construct the sides of the bridge, which are then covered with padding to keep warm enough in the cold weather.

In addition, the median barrier and fencing still need to be finished.

As the majority of the work is completed, only one of the four cranes used for construction remains on the main bridge.

The Golden Ears Bridge will be a six-lane toll bridge operated by TransLink and linking Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows to Surrey and Langley.

The first month of operation will be free of tolls, but the Albion Ferry Service is expected to halt shortly after the bridge opens.

In Langley, the Township council has been asked if they could facilitate a run across the new bridge this summer.

Nice! Took me a while to figure out the second one was the opposite view to the third one.

Man does that 113B St interchange on the north side have wide clearance! From the looks of that photo, perhaps 12+ lanes could easily fit through.

Thanks for the great updates, that third shot is my favorite for this project so far. It is nice to see real infrastructure being built. Canada's shortest freeway! (maybe tied with the Mission Bridge and that bizarre two interchange stretch of road in Abbotsford)

Except the Mission-Abbotsford Bridge is designed for 80km/h and there's also an interchange on the Mission side.

There is an interchange on the Maple Ridge side in this project along with a few other ramps. It is almost identical to the mission bridge in length of free flow and the number of interchanges and ramps. Each have 1 true 4 way interchange and 2-3 semi 1 or 2 way interchanges.

One of two cyclist/pedestrian ramps to the south approach, Langley, under construction.

between this and new pitt river bridge and the new port mann, it's pretty impressive to have 3 large briges u/c at the same time.

Stingray2004, the freeway passes through only one side of the overpass. So in that picture it would be the righthand side....not sure why, maybe future expansion.

Also, after the first overpass on the north side, is the "freeway" going to be of a boulavard type? In one of the photos posted earlier it seemed to be as such. treed/plant median.

Whats the point of the on-ramp chicane (the S curve) just south of the bike ramp? wouldn't it be a smoother flow of traffic and safer if the onramp maintained a straight track?

I was thinking the same. I'm sure they thought of that, but had to avoid certain things.

keeps the traffic slower when they merge and looks like some of the existing buildings would be too close

I don't understand. You want to be at the same speed as the rest of the traffic when you merge, not slower.
