What about getting a P3 partner in this climate? Is the province going to be the lender? Hopefully it doesn't take long to get "shovels in the ground".
Not to mention Commuter Rail to boot.

The report that nname posted from 2001 shows that the Option B or B+ portals are "high risk" due to water-saturated poor soils (cost $21-30M) while the elevated section over Barnet is "low risk" with a cost of $8M.
http://www.translink.bc.ca/files/board_f...03-16_3-2_PtMdyCoq-PtMdyPortalOption.pdf

In terms of the transit riders' experience, having the tunnel portal in the hillside and emerging onto an elevated structure would provide amazing views - like the M-Line in New Westminster.

I think that having an elevated guideway adjacent to low to midrise housing is fine. There's a lot of housing like that along the Expo Line in Burnaby. As for a "Yaletown" character - that's just suburban real estate developers and marketers trying to cash in. There are lots of projects in Surrey touted as having a Yaletown feel - but end up looking like Fairview. Collingwood Village is successful and it is adjacent to an elevated segment.

Doesn't Port Moody already have a "Yaletown" like area along the eastern shore of Burrard Inlet? How silly that they are going to complain about such a short elevated structure over a highway, for goodness sakes it will probably be similar to a large pedestrian overpass! I think if they really want the lower entrance that much then the city should pay the difference in costs compared to the higher tunnel entrance.

Yes it does - it's called Newport Village. Plus there's the other project across the street - Suter Brook?

Here's the aerial of the Andres lands from Global Air Photos (2004 & 2005)
Note that an elevated guideway would be high level when crossing Barnet Highway and appear even higher still on the Andres lands because the Andres lands are at a lower elevation.
Essentially, what you would see is like the Expo guideway as it transitions from Grandview Hwy North over Clark Drive and over the escarpment to the False Creek Flats.
That said, I still think that you can build condos in the area (and the CP tracks aren't moving).

Is there going to be an announcement/unveiling for the Evergreen Line anytime soon?

Anything dramatic like the recent unveiling + breaking ground of the new Port Mann? :p

Ah, I kind of figured that would be for the Evergreen line..

A semi-temporary building is going up at the Coquitlam Center park and ride. I guess that is for the Evergreen office. It's almost done from the looks of it. I imagine it'll be set to open for when funding is finalized.

Since it has gone back to being SkyTrain - check out these 4 docs from 2002 that were posted by nname - that pretty much sums up the options. I think the future Cameron Station has been deleted (feasibility would probably depend on if it is built as a side-of-the-road guideway - definitely deleted as a future station if it is a median guideway).

I think the west alignment option should be a given. We can see the success of that already with the No. 3 Rd. But if the are going with the center median, please do the the enhanced median design.

Well, it's the NW route, the alignment can be found on the Translink website.

The PTV study done for Translink modeled stations at Lougheed, Burquitlam, Queens, Port Moody Station, Ioco, Coquitlam Station, Lincoln and Guildford.

But for the PMC Line they were going to go down the middle of North Road since its the dividing line between Burnaby & Coquitlam and neither city's politicians wanted to be saddled with the impacts more than the other.

The key to a future station would be to have the station site on the side of the road - either west side or east side. The guideway could run up the west side along mall property to the station site (at the corner of the mall property & the new Silouette condo), then transition to the median after the station site if the new Silouette condo project blocks the west allignment ROW. Ideally the guideway should stay on the west side until it turns into Clark Road where it can enter the median and Burquitlam station could be a trench station in the median at the portal.

Hopefully someone will explain the difference in the impacts and feasibility of options between the west allignment and the median allignment to the politicians.
