The unfortunate aspect of suburban Salt Lake is that for every urban development, there are 10 or more suburban-oriented ones that are going up simultaneously. That ratio isn't good for future growth.

Yeah, hopefully they become more and more dense and cities enforce growth boundaries so the developments are forced to become more dense.

It's going to be a multi-agency state office building:

The last time I saw it (like a week ago) they had only completed steel framing for about half of the total complex (shown in red below), so as big as it already looks, its going to be almost twice as large when finished:

Thanks arkhitektor, I too had wonder what was going on there on that site. But it looks like a 4-story building, not 5.

Breaking News!!!

Port O'Call closing its doors Monday night

http://www.ksl.com/index.php?nid=148&sid=5480928

Tomorrow night, Port O'Call will close its doors for the final time after 20 years in operation. The building housing the bar has been condemned to make way for the new federal courthouse.

This is truly a great loss of a building and a club. Port O'Call and Shubrick, you will be missed.

Alas. This is infuriating. I'll miss port-o-call. I'll miss the character of the shubrick building, and I'll forever lament what should have been a taller, better looking courthouse utilizing the space available rather than the squat borg cube that required the leveling of 2/3 c city block.

Some people I know don't care.

Progress, they say.

No point in getting worked up over the past. It's just that, the past. Of course, these are the same idiots who bitch about the pollution, their long commutes from trashy suburbs and the fact they're 50 pounds overweight because their fat asses drive everywhere and eat cheap and gross fast food.

Some other renderings I found today:

Front:

Rear:
(This is the view you'll see from I-215. The brown grass shown in the rendering would be right where the freeway is actually.)

My grandpa designed that white striped-looking building, the taste must be genetic. I have a portfolio somewhere full of his projects so I'll have to post some material.
