that thing looks so damn stubby. It isn't even as tall as the Sheraton. I can just barely see the top 2 floors from my bedroom, compared to the Chase building where I can see about 10 (hard to tell with its cladding) about 6 from Sheraton, 15+ on BofA, and hell even 4 on 44 monroe.

OCPE sucks!

Better...vvv

I never said any such thing. Please reword that statement so it is clear that you are not quoting me.

LOL - I was teasing you for complaining that we didn't have a building like the "W" in NYC. I figured if you wanted that building, you would want the ocean too, to be more like NYC.

I wouldn't mind my house suddenly being worth what it would be worth in NYC.

OCPE is short and fat. Hopefully it has a great personality. There, I said it.

I think it's actually good looking in terms of the details (nice face?) but overall less so and proportionally downright unattractive. Find me a celebrity that fits that description and you just gave the building a new nickname.

I agree. If it had a couple hundred more feet on top, it might balance it out and look more proportional. It's kind of like the City Hall, which is a great looking building, but would look amazing with another 100 feet on it.

I know, I'm just whining, but if we are going to nit-pick.

New downtown tower reaches highest point

The Arizona Republic
A $175 million downtown Phoenix office tower has reached its highest point.

The developers behind the 26-story One Central Park East held a "topping out" ceremony today. The glass office building sits at 50 East Van Buren. It's scheduled to be completed in November, said Todd Kindberg, a senior vice president for Mesirow Financial Real Estate Inc., the developer.

"One Central Park East can accommodate a large law firm, large corporate offices and expanding businesses while providing easy access to downtown," said Kindberg, who called the building an "urban modern icon."

At the gathering, an invitation-only crowd of local dignitaries took in panoramic views of Camelback Mountain and downtown Phoenix from the building's 18th floor.

Projects like Central Park East are crucial during the economic downtown, Mayor Phil Gordon told the crowd.

"If we can continue to build great infrastructure projects, we can continue to create more jobs," the mayor said.

The building, which has 485,000 square feet to lease, has not announced any tenants yet.

"We have solid traction with several lead tenant prospects," Kindberg said.
EDIT: VV at the time this tower was started the downtown office market was in desperate need of more Class A office space. While it may not fill up once its completed, it likely will during the next market uptick.

...and its all empty. I do not understand how the Mayor thinks an empty office building will help the local economy. Investors will look at this and say why should there be further development in Downtown.

Is there something I am missing here? Am I right or am I wrong?

I hope this tower finds a /some tenant(s) soon.

This building is "empty" because it is not finished yet. Technically it's topped off, but the interior spaces are nowhere near completed.

I don't remember specifics off the top of my head, however some tenants have already been announced. I believe one was a large law firm (???). In any event, not all of the signed tenants (or the prospective tenants) have been announced yet to the public. The building may initially not be as brimming as we all would have liked, however empty it will definitely not be.

I have not read that any tenants have been announced for this project. Me thinks it will stay relatively empty for quite some time.

yay for not being suspended anymore.
