Read DKaz's post. SkyTrain also has that rail on the side. In addition is has that strip in the middle, which is related to the linear induction propulsion system.

The power rail is either on the side... or overhead. I'll chose the side. I don't see how it's ugly either.

If you see in my last picture, it even has a LED sign on the platforms!!!! They are on the SkyTrain platforms and they are on the Canada Line platforms (well being installed). Those signs serve a purpose for providing passenger information as well as what is the next train. LED signs on trains are for telling the commuter in which direction that train is headed. LCD TVs are for providing passengers with "service disruptions" and other related passenger information, advertisements, and Global TV news headlines.

I actually perfer the ones in the Millennium Line...where they seperate the
two rails and put the power rail in the MIDDLE!

You didn't listen did you. The power rail is on the side. The linear induction rail is in the middle.

From what I know, I don't know any transportation system in the world with a power rail in the centre. This is incredibly dangerous as if you ever fall off the edge of the platform, you will be touching the power rail indefinitely. The only metro I know with the power rail in the center is Bordeaux Trams, but they have a special design to it so that you can't get electrocuted.

I don't know where you've been or if you've bothered to read all of the posts made by others, but the POWER RAIL on SkyTrain is on the SIDE. The rail down the middle is NOT THE POWER RAIL but the LINEAR INDUCTION RAIL, which propels the trains along the tracks and is basically the precursor to maglev technology or high-tech roller coaster technology.

This one isn't that clear but I am talking about the power supply that is only visible in the Richmond section....close to the City Hall.

You can't see a power supply... that's just a gangway rail so that if there was an emergency, people can evacuate the trains and not having to worry to fall on to the street below.

Thank you deasine and MrX2 for posting that.

I understand that all of them are at the side....but take a look again at
this picture deasine posted. They seperated the two rails and put them
at the inner side...so when you look up from below, it seems like in the middle.
I am not talking about the actual rail but the location regarding the whole structure. Perhaps there were some misunderstanding there. Sorry!

That's the rail for the emergency/maintenance walkway along the track...it would be in the middle if it were double-tracked rather than single-tracked.

Logically, a power rail wouldn't be train window high anyway....

That picture is of Broadway Station and the gap in the middle of the guideway is only for a 60-metres or so before the guideway merges back into one.

Why is there a gap? Because Broadway Station is a centre platform and they have also designed it in a way so that the centre platform can be extended in length.

Yeah...they got that thing there but that is not it. It is actually below that "fence" like structure. I can't find a pic right now...I'll try and get one

I've seen some parts with a gap along the Millennium Line.

Nope...this one is a good pic but it doesn't show the thing I am talking about.
I saw it at the last section of Richmond...close to City Hall and Richmond Centre.

The gaps along other Expo and M-Line stations are for the exact same reasons.
