Moderator: not sure where to post this, but there seem to be several threads related to Salem posted in the Portland forum under the suburb folder. I really don't consider Salem a suburb of Portland. I was wondering if we could move these post to a more appropriate locations. I may be the only one concerned about this, if so then I guess it is not that big of a deal, but it would be nice to filter these away from all of the Portland posts. Not trying to start anything here so please don't take this the wrong way.

thanks for the comment but to keep the front page less busy we decided to include vancouver, salem, and eugene under the Suburbs folder instead of creating a separate forum for each. Currently there is not enough salem discussion to warrant a separate forum.

For some reason, this one is taking a while to finish. It might have to do with the fact that there are a lot of different trades involved.

This one is barely out of the ground.

It's really just the parking structure that is being built at this point. There is some foundation work done on the building but that's it.

Thats actually a really cool building across the creek. Do you know what it is? I've never seen such a contemporary and fresh looking building in Salem. Must be new?

I actually saw this building during the Christmas break from highway 22 going into West Salem... it really stands out in Salem's low-rise "skyline."

Good addition. They need more of them... next boom cycle?

It's going to have the Salem Cinema on the corner - that box thing. Salem Cinema plays documentaries and that sort of thing.

The rest is retail on the ground floor and apartments above. There are also a bunch of townhomes being built right behind it.

The building across the creek is called Salmon Run. It's about 4 years old. It is office and residential. It was designed and built by the same company that's doing the Waterplace building - CB2 Architects and Construction.

So, I guess they have a little campus going.

I don't like to be a big critic - I'm glad they built something of significant scale - but I don't get the design of this thing. It looks like a fortress. The stone looks like puke, the windows don't make any sense, and the little canopies look so applied.

I like the brick color and the metal on the top floor. But, other than that, I just don't get it.

Can anyone defend this thing?

Maybe this is the look they were going for. I can see some of the same aspects, but the meridian is sooooo poorly done compared to this.

Personally, I like it. I think it's the kind of thing that fills in the look and feel of a city once it finishes growing up, and for the style it looks great. I like the curved part near the intersection. I like the stone's color and look.

I think it's a nice building, for what it's trying to be.

So, what is the style exactly? What is this building trying to be? I think that's the part that stumps me.

I actually like to curved part as well. I think I would really like the building if it had more curved corners instead of just one.
