Yeah, That particular brand is similar all over the country, much like other brands such as the Courtyard, Fairfield, Garden, etc. I think it's placement up close to the street makes for some good infill. I do hope that the final finish is as interesting as the rendering seems to make it.

Although cold, it sure made for some beautiful light T-Mac. Great Pics as always!! They will give the national crowd a great supply to look at throughout the week over on the Comp. Thread.

Has anyone heard any updates on the Gateway Six? I sure do want to see that office building go up. To me, it's one of the coolest low to mid-rises under proposal. I would imagine it's on the slow track at the moment, due to the economy.

Thanks Delts. I was on top of the Regent Street parking garage and messing around with my zoom lens and grabbed a couple of shots of the foothills. It was very cold with light breeze and I didn't have my tripod so the pictures are a little blurry but I think they turned out well. I thought they looked pretty cool after the fresh snow storm that we had. Hope you guys don't mind me posting them here.

I didn't know Boise has a hyatt. How long did you guys had a hyatt? How big is it?

I just thought I'd say how icky I think the new Mountain America branch is and how I don't like the new Hyatt either.

I agree with Tangeld... that is why I asked about the hyatt at Gateway...
Boise's Hyatt Place is not downtown.. its a 6 story hotel out by boise towne square.. and it is ugly.. and I see a lot of similarities to it...
Hyatt Place use to be a different hotel (Amerisuites).. and hyatt hotels bought it and remodeled it... I think it's been a hyatt for a year or more.... not sure exactly.. but it's uh-uh-uh-ugly...

We here in Richmond, VA will be receiving our first Hilton. It is still under construction.

TANGELD, LOL. C'mon now... The new Hyatt isn't at a stage where we can make a final judgement yet. The rendering gives it an interesting and classy look in its final finish. Let's just hope that the final product is as interesting as the rendering.

At least at this point, the placement on 400 West is a plus.

I have stayed at a Hyatt Place. REALLY NICE!!! I think they have 3.5 star rating.

I drive up State Street every day and I'm glad to see some changes on the southern end between 700 and 900 south. I like the Mountain America CU branch. I like that it was brought up to the street and that the parking is in the rear. I also like it a whole lot more than the vacant lot that was there prior. It has a lot of stucco, and I know a lot of people on this forum really hate stucco, but I personally like it. The best thing about it is that it will bring a number of employees to that area. Bringing more people to that block will do nothing but enhance it.

That new bar and grill across the street is looking great, especially the historical building that is being remodeled.

This is an area that needs some work. There's plenty of visibility and traffic. I think as soon as some of the less attractive tenants in the area leave, it should really improve. One example may be the porno shop, that is also a pawn shop, and is also a check cashing store, and also sells beer and cigarettes. Now that is mixed-use! ha ha. I always hate having to give directions to my house, "...go down state street and turn left at the porn shop, you can't miss it."

The more changes on State Street to get rid of that route 66 look the better. I hope the economy will not delay the Market Station Project on 21st for too much longer.

My house is off of 1700 S. and State. It's just a colorful neighborhood. I am approached by 'ladies of the evening' quite often while turning onto my street from State Street. So it could be worse, UTPlanner. That being said, I do love my neighborhood. We call it Sugarhood, being that it is to far west to really be Sugarhouse. Changes to State St. would be much welcome! If Market Station happens, I expect it to have a profound impact on the neighborhood. I'm crossing my fingers on that project.

I can't wait to check out that new bar and grill! For those of you familiar with the area, it was a vacant Asian Market which still had the sign of a previous tenant on the roof. The previous tenant was a shop that sold square dancing costumes--the Wagon Wheel. It was a hilarious combination of State Street blight.

Another project on State St. worth noticing is at about 1200 S., on the west side of the street. It looks like live/work apartments, or at the least, street level retail. It's only two stories, but looks really sharp. I'll try to snap a pic sometime. It's gray stucco, with the roof and window and door frames in red. Very street friendly.

Wow, I haven't been on here in only a week or two and the discussion has gone through quite a bit since then. I don't mean to re hash some things, but I have a few thoughts...

1) Mother Trucker people!!!! What's with getting offended so easily?? Guess what? That's what people do; they piss other people off. Mostly by accident, sometimes not. The point I want to make is that people need to not get so offended so easily! We can all work on not being offensive, but I feel like talking about relevant culture topics on this thread steps on WAY too many toes WAY too easily. Can we all work together and ware some shoes around here and try not to step on toes?? If someone accidently does step on your toe, kindly ask them to step off and don't whine about it.

2) I don't remember who said it (and I'm a bit too lazy to look it up) but I totally agree with the person who said something to the effect that "Salt Lake's biggest asset is that it keeps away the morons". Coming from California, this is totally true in my experience. The less-informed and uncultured people I grew up with over there didn't know a thing about Utah besides that everyone in Utah churned his or her own butter, lit his or her home by oil lamp light, and that all Utahns participated in some sort of Mormon vudoo ritual involving the sacrifice of the best lamb and first born of the family. The more cultured folks, however, frequented Park City, the slopes, the Sundance Film Festival, Temple Square, etc and respected the local culture.

We attract the right crowd, which is a great thing! Utah has a lot of things going for it. I remember recently coming across one stat that ranked Utah as the most wired and tech-savy state in the nation. Utah's population is growing faster than any other state. Utah has enjoyed massive budget surpluses in recent years and is currently in much better economic shape than the rest of the nation.

When talking to the less-informed, I usually just stick with two come-backs. 1) The Salt Lake Metro's population exceedes that of Las Vegas and is equal to that of New Orleans (pre-Katrina) and 2) Salt Lake hosted the Winter Olympics, it is the largest city to do so to date (until 2010 anyways), and it is currently in the running for the 2018 games (only 16 years after the first time it hosted in 2002). Denver hasn't even hosted the games once, let alone competed for a second shot.

I believe Sarajevo in 1984 was the largest to city to host the Winter Olympics.

This was already put to rest on this thread... so please leave it and talk about development only.

here in boise it's a hyatt place at towne square... same as the one being built at the gateway.....
