Nice pics. That building at 5th & Mopac is Capstar at Compass Plaza. They only have one more floor to go. It'll be 100 feet tall.

While at the Trail of Lights, I noticed a booth that had some amazing photos of Austin. I didn't get a chance to stop and look, but as luck would have it, I found their Flickr page.

Check these out, there's some stunning photos of Austin here.

Nice shots, priller. I haven't been on that section of Barton Springs Road since April. It's amazing to see the progress on those Barton Place Condos.

BTW, regarding the piles of dirt at Zilker Park, I happened to notice this on the city's parks website:

81st Zilker Kite Festival: Sunday, March 1, 2009, 10:00 AM
The Zilker Kite Festival will be held on the Polo Fields/Moonlight Tower Fields on the south side of Barton Springs Road on March 1, 2009, due to field reconstruction on the soccer fields at Zilker Park.

Wow that last photo on Prillers post is amazing! I wouldnt even be able to recognize that as being Austin. The last time I was downtown was a few years ago. It looks completely different. All it needs now is a supertall or two.

AMOA Museum Tower Cancelled

I hate being the bearer of bad news, but here's the link:

Here's to this being a blessing in disguise, i.e. something even bigger and better later on!

Happy new year everybody.

I hope someone got good pictures of downtown during and after the fireworks. Most of the smoke from them blew into downtown and the area looked pretty eerie from ground level. Probably wasn't very healthy though.

I took pictures last night from the hill in town lake park! I think we need to give the city a round of applause for turning on the sprinklers in the middle of the fireworks!

You know I was thinking about wanting to view the fireworks over there with my friend but we ended up staying on the South First street bridge. Maybe was a good decision after all LMAO.

I don't know if any of you have posted this yet but do any of you guys remember this

Last September, Fortis Development proposed a 250-foot, 200-unit, 25-story tower on 8th street and West Avenue near downtown. Since the area is currently zoned for buildings no taller than 60 feet, the project required a zoning variance or zoning change.

This week, the developers continued to press their case to the ciry for the zoning change, proving that the project is very much alive. As part of the process, the architects have presented four design options for the city to evaluate. all design have public parks in the back facing shoal creek. In the future, a trail will run alongside the creek connecting the building directly to the hike and bike trails and Ladybird Lake.

As we have reported, this decision may be a tough one for the city council: they need to decide on the boundaries of Austin's high-rise downtown. In the projects favor, it is within two blocks of the Nokonah at 9th and Lamar, CLB's proposed 33-story super tower on 7th and Rio Grande, and another project on 6th and West. As the developer points out, it is one of very few downtown blocks free of capital view corridor restrictions.

Here are the details on the proposed project:

- 200 condos in a single 25-story tower
- Lot size is 1.2 Acres
- Proposed building size is 25 stories totalling 130,605 square feet
- The project would include 143 parking spaces
- Planned amenities include a sun deck, gardens, and public trails connecting the building to the Shpal Creek greenbelt

That link you provided is from June 24, 2008. I thought the city had already approved the zoning change, but are only allowing the building to be 120 feet tall. This is some info from Emporis on that project:

Quote:
In 2007, the developers requested a zoning change to the proposed height as the site is zoned for only 60 feet. Originally announced as a 250 foot tower, the project was scaled back to 120 feet due to zoning issues.
Also, on page one of this thread Kevin updated this info on October 17, 2008:

Quote:
Lowered 800 West's height from 250 feet to 120 feet tall.

Great pano Priller! Chances are, I'm one of those dots along town lake in your shot. The whole family trekked down to the trail yesterday. And what a fantastic day it was, 82 degrees and sunny. And now a distant memory, at 45 degrees this AM.

So cold this morning! Very windy. I didn't even check the temperature before going out. The wife and I were going to the gym, opened our lobby door and -- yikes! -- back up stairs for coats and hats.

Lots of Spring photos from yesterday. From what I can tell, they are working on the main roof now, with just the crown remaining.

By the end of the day I had gotten a flat in my bike tire. Apparently thorns are a major nemesis of bike tires around here. Plain old thorns. Who woulda guessed? Took this while waiting at Mellow Johnny's.

Great shots, priller!

In that first photo of Spring, well - it's good to see the city watering grass somewhere

In the second Spring photo that Gables project is coming along nicely. From that particular vantage point, looks like you'll only be able to see the top third of the Monarch when the Gables project is complete.

Re: Revolution Riverside - I forget - are they building those three buildings one at a time starting with the shorter one along the shoreline first, or all three together at once? BTW, a bit further east on Riverside before you get to Lakeshore Drive, I noticed another lot where a lot of prep work had been done. I think the sign said it was an Amli development.

Re: the weather. I agree with everyone's comments. It's crazy. It's weird looking at your pictures of Saturday's clear skies and 80 degree weather and people in shorts (in January, no less) and then looking out the window 24 hours later and seeing overcast skies and wind and having to turn the heat on.

Thanks for the updates.
