that record is specific to christmas day

that 1996 storm was dec 29th

but i remember it - we couldn't leave our building for two days - the driveway was passed our knees

it was because of that snow storm that the building got a snow blower which i got to use on the 24th this year! good times

it looks like rain now out here

This year was officially the whitest Christmas ever, for we had more snow on the ground this Dec 25th than any other Christmas since record keeping began, along with the coldest overnight low since 1967 a week ago i officially hate this December.

There's more than half a metre of snow piled up on the ground here in West Point Grey/UBC and it's still falling heavily.....city crews have dug around storm drains to prevent flooding tomorrow.

8,000 people reportedly stranded at Metrotown SkyTrain station

METRO VANCOUVER - Problems with track switches and inclement weather have plagued SkyTrain's Expo line all day, resulting in a large crowd of people becoming stranded at Metrotown SkyTrain station.

A problematic switch at Columbia Station has seen the Expo line stopping and starting all afternoon, with conflicting reports of shutdowns and resumptions making it hard for passengers to plan their rides.

Technical staff are working on the problem.

The delays have created a serious passenger jam at Metrotown Station, where lineups are stretching past the overhead walkway to the station proper and Transit Police are working on crowd control.

Officials have requested that people going to or from Metrotown find alternate means home.

And if that's not enough, a tree overhanging the guideway near 29th Avenue Station caused a half hour stoppage of the line that hsould be cleared by 7p.m.

wow. that sucks. the one time i ever attempted metrotown on boxing day i almost had a nervous breakdown because its basically impossible to move.

i dont remember 1996 at all...

today transit problem is widespread

someone told me that early this evening all 9,99 and 17 could not pass through broadway between Arbutus and Granville , because several buses got struck and blocked all lanes of broadway

its gross out there right now - raining softly but fairly warm compared to the last week

the forecast shows cooler temps on tuesday with more snow

until than highs reach 7c and rain

I was one of the person who was stranded in Metrotown. The line up was all the way from the station to the entrance of the mall near Metrotower. My trip from Metrotown to downtown ended up to be about 2 hours (about 1.5 hours train ride).

Oh, and as of 11pm, it was still snowing hard at Metrotown area (from 29th Ave all the way to Edmonds I suppose).

I'm not sure, but it took us about 8 to 10 trains (6 cars MKI or 4 cars MKII) before we could finally get on.

Coast Mountain Bus Co.
standing water in all service areas could lead to spot re-routes throughout Metro Vancouver, particularly in Vancouver, Coquitlam and Port Coquitlam.

Vancouver:
Dunbar Street is extremely icy, especially between 10th and 16th. The #7 is terminating at Highbury.
The #84 will route via Blanca until conditions improve on Chancellor Blvd.
The #100 will omit Trapp Avenue in New Westminster

North Vancouver:
The # 211, #212, #215 and the C15 will re-route via Mount Seymour Parkway to Parkgate Village and turnaround there
The #210 Southbound will run on Underwood, Coleman, Ogden, Lynn Valley and Mountain Highway
The #229 will run only to 15th and Lonsdale then R/15th, L/Grand Blvd to Lynn Valley rd continue regular route and the same in reverse.
The #230 will run only to Lonsdale and 23rd

Coquitlam:
The 152 service routing via Austin omitting Rochester
The 151 service routing via Como Lake to Mariner both directions

Bowen Island Shuttle not operating due to slippery road conditions.

SkyTrain
SkyTrain continues to operate the Millennium and Expo Lines separately while technicians check sensor loops in the Columbia Tunnel. While this work is underway, the Millennium Line will run from VCC-Clark to Sapperton Station only. Millennium Line passengers wishing to transfer to the Expo Line should travel to the Broadway Commercial Station, as connections are not available between Sapperton and Columbia.
Trains from Scott Road to Columbia are being manually operated and are running every 10 minutes.SkyTrain will continue to run longer trains (6 car Mark I’s and 4 car Mark II’s) with SkyTrain Attendants onboard to monitor the guideway

Albion Ferry

Due to ice buildup on the Fraser River the Albion Ferry has been discontinued until further notice.

West Vancouver Transit
The #253 Caulfeild is on a snow route. Buses run along Marine Drive - up 31st to Westmound Exit 7 - along Highway #1 to Exit 4 where passengers are picked up at the shopping Centre - then back along Highway #1 to 15th - down 15th to Mathers - along Mathers to 25th - then down 25th to Marine Drive where it continues eastbound.
The #251 Queens Ave is on a snow route.

lots of puddles out there and the roof collapses are starting - a building in maple ridge is actually bowed out from the weight of the snow

Are people retarded around here? If they were smart they would have shoveled off their roofs a few days ago when the snow was still fluffy and light. Now that it is warmer with rain falling the snow becomes super saturated and heavy like concrete. these people deserve to have their roofs cave in.

SATURDAY:
- 4c/-2c

- 1-3 cm snow

SUNDAY

- 20 to 30mm rain
