The PechetandRobb website that City_guy linked to has this render of the exhaust stacks for the energy centre:

http://www.pechetandrobb.ca/

Quote:

The proposed Community Energy Centre (CEC) is an innovative heating plant that will produce domestic hot water and space heating for the new Southeast False Creek development, in Vancouver. The water will be primarily heated by a sewage heat recovery system, with peak loads met by low-emission natural gas boilers.

Our studio was retained by the prime consultant, Sandwell Engineering Inc., to turn the required emissions stacks into a community amenity. It seemed significant that the CEC will be heating people with existing body heat. We tried to honor this important aspect of the facility by investing the exhaust flues with a human quality. At the top of each finger-like flue (5-6 storeys high) is a finger nail-like LED light fixture, which will be activated by the operations of the facility. The stacks will become a gateway element into downtown Vancouver.

Vancouver, Canada
2007-ongoing

I figure the residual heat in the sewers will be more from showers, dishwashers and laundry. Not sure how cyclical that would be over the course of a 24 hour period, but it would probably coincide with the peirods that people are actually at home.

The SE False Creek project will be gorgeous, but I am not sure on the timelines for alot of what they have planned...

The new stuff Concord has been completing over the last year are not selling well as there is so much older product that is much better value.

At the end of the day $$ makes these projects come to fruition...

There sure is a contrast between the buildings in the downtown peninsula and the Olympic Village. Tall and slender vs short and squat.

Did someone pave over Andy Livingstone? Why does it look grey? Or is that just me?

Doesn't anyone read my posts? *l*
The turf was is bad shape, the COV is having it replaced, that picture was taken after the old turf was removed and they were fixing the base.

I believe they are replacing the artificial turf and repairing the field.
(http://vancouver.ca/parks/board/2008/080512/andy_livingstone_turf_replacement.pdf ). Definitely hasn't been paved.

Hey, I'm a fan of your posts... I miss a few here and there though. Thanks for the info! Hopefully they replace it with the latest stuff, not the 1970s and 80s variety carpet. I think it depends on what the grass hockey organization wants.

Interestingly, artificial turf should not have to be green, it could be any colour. (I read all the posts.)

Sure. I guess anything that is synthetic can be any colour. Heck, you could paint real grass if you wanted. Artificial turf these days is made to simulate grass as close as possible though. Would people want brown for burnt out grass? No... they are green for a reason. Anyway, that's a whole different discussion.

That aerial is insane. SEFC will be approaching European densities when it is all built out if the Olympic Village is any indication.

^It would seem that is the way things are heading. I can't wait to check this area out for that reason too. I'm interested in seeing what kind of vibe its more European built form will produce.

Given the financial problems, I wouldn't be surprised if the interior furnishings were downgraded just like the Shangri-la residences.
