It would be cool if Vancouver had a White Christmas this year. I believe the last time Vancouver had a White Xmas was in 1998.

I'm in fact headed to Vancouver this afternoon to stay with some relatives over the holidays.

I think Vancouverites are just enthralled by snow because it's a rarity. I moved to Toronto from Vancouver four years ago, and my excitement for snow dropped like a brick. It was kind of cool at first to have snowy winters, but this year, when the first snow hit I felt absolutely nothing.

Woohoo, it's been about 17 years since i've been in a blizzard, and that was in Edmonton -- tightly bundled in winter clothes and walking to school.

they said there is black ice on the portmann

mary hill is said to be a skating rink - trucks have jacknifed etc and pulled over, hey #1 in the vaklley is said to be in bad shape with trucks in ditches etc

fraser hwy is said to be really bad too

out here near brentwood its barely snowing the main roads are mostly good - the side roads are icy and snow covered

the police have told people not to drive anywhere unless its an emergency - advising people to stay home and stay off the roads

I have to really wonder what VANOC's contingency plan is in the event we get a similar (or larger and consecutive) snowfall in the February of 2010. We'd probably need to borrow dozens and dozens and dozens and dozens and dozens of snow removal and salting vehicles from other jurisdictions in B.C. and Canada.

What if it snowed during the entire 17-day event? :p

It's been snowing nonstop since I woke this morning at 7:30 - and still hasn't stopped. Last itme I was in Vancouver for the Xmas holidays was back in 2006, and I never saw a flake.

I saw a car slide backwards this morning about 40-50 feet right in front of my brother's house in North Delta, but thankfully didn't hit anything. Probably still had summer tires on. A few more cars had trouble on our street, too. However, my brother's Honda CRV SUV gave him no real problems, as it was fitted with all-season tires - and that my brother's probably had more experience in winter driving than a lot of people in Metro Van do (like me, he was born and grew up in Alberta).

i didn't drive today cause my car is horrible in the snow - i need winter tires - i learned to drive in teh snow up north so this would be nothing but i am scared of the other drivers - driving home last night some were driving so slow and one guy had his blinkers on in the fast lane going about 10 km/h

i drive slow but not that slow

i probably wouldn't have made it out of my driveway today anyway - it was covered in snow and not shovelled or salted - a truck had a struggle getting out as i started to walk to the skytrain - so if he could barely do it i would have been having a harder time

I don't think I've ever seen a snowfall warning for 5 cm...

The traffic was quite light all day today which was nice for me cause I drive for a living. My Alberta winter driving experience sure comes in handy on days like this...
