Also in the past, there has been a disconnect between the elementary school level of participation in the U.S. and the professional level. Now there seems to be a sizable push to develop programs at the secondary level and also at the University level. I know BYU just dedicated their own field and stands specific area for soccer. It has been very enthusiastically received by the locals and students.

That's just from memory, and there may be other teams I have forgotten.

This is a forum where people try to gather information about our urban areas and cities and discuss them. It's not a race to a mythical "post count or thread views championship" ... it's not a competition.

Anyway, I'll continue to enjoy the "good" information many of you SLCers post about Salt Lake.

I like Delts's posts. I like the articles, and I even like his formatting choices. You, on the other hand, are simply an obnoxious troll.

Believe me there are few industries that put forth more effort on their feasiblity studies than the hotel industry. If they feel as though they can use a hotel in that area, they are probably right. Don't fool yourself into thinking that the Rio Tinto Stadium and those utilizing it would be the only ones using the hotels. There are plenty of business travelers, skiiers (Little Cottonwood Canyon visitors), and others to fill a hotel. I'm constantly amazed a the number of hotels in the valley but they seem to be consistently filled. Thanksgiving Point just built one hotel and has another under construction. I'm sure it's not populated with people desperate to see the Thanksgiving Point Gardens.

If you think about it. When was the last time you saw a hotel close in the area? Well, one that wasn't some scary shin-dig like the former Temple View Motel.

Alliant Techsystems is considering Utah as the site for a commercial aircraft composites manufacturing facility that would mean more than 840 new jobs over 20 years.

The Governor's Office of Economic Development Board on Thursday approved a $32.7 million tax credit over 20 years to entice the company to select Utah.

GOED board documents indicate the company will decide on the project location by February, with development to full production to occur over five to seven years...

UTPlanner brings up a good point. Those hotels will be used for other use as well other then for the Rio Tinto Stadium. Hotels here seem to do really well.

Speaking of Hotels, I forgot to post this the other day. Here is a photo I took of the new Hyatt Hotel in Sandy. It just opened last week I think.

That's what I have been hoping for as well. It might be a few years off still. But that would be awesome to see companies from Asia expand or move here to Utah.

It's official - Local group buys Tribune building - 39/42 LLC also buys other properties in downtown area

The former Salt Lake Tribune building and an adjacent retail space last occupied by the Art of Baking have been purchased by a local real estate partnership of Vasilios Priskos and Mike Ferro called 39/42 LLC.

"We want to redevelop the building. That's our intent right now," Priskos said Thursday. "We're looking at all options — from office use to different types of residential use and, of course, retail on the main level..."

In addition to acquiring the Tribune building as part of the deal, 39/42 acquired a building at 262 S. Main, adjacent to a building that the partnership already owned at 260 S. Main. Priskos and Ferro also acquired the property under the Walker Center parking terrace. They purchased the Wallace Bennett building on 100 South, the building that houses the Caffe Molise and the Oxford Shop Shoe Store, adjacent to the Arrow Press building that Priskos and Ferro own.

As announced in a recent corporate communication, due to a decline in customer demand, Fairchild Semiconductor will be implementing various cost-cutting actions including a workforce reduction. As part of this process, we are announcing today that a voluntary layoff program will be offered to all regular employees at the Salt Lake site.
Informational packets for those who may want to consider participating in the voluntary layoff program are available in the HR area, cafeteria, and the east entrance break area. The packet provides information on Fairchild’s severance package, which is the same for both involuntary and voluntary reductions-in-force. Additionally, it contains benefit plan information and the form employees will need to submit in order to be considered for the voluntary layoff program. Forms are due to the HR department no later than Thursday, December 18, 2008, at 12:00 Noon. Forms received after this deadline will not be considered. Approval is at the discretion of management and decisions will be made based on the need to retain specific skills or shift coverage.

The parking lot behind the old Zions bank would be a pretty good idea. It would just mean part of 100 South being closed off, but people probably wouldn't care TOO much. It would be a shame to see the old businesses leave. It'd be cool if they could relocate to City Creek or something.

They'd probably need to delay any construction for a Convention Hotel until after the completion of City Creek Center, so it'd be a while off.

But I think that building a big Convention Center Hotel in Arrow Press Square would start to do some gap filling that we currently have in the downtown skyline. It'd be nearly centered in the space between 100 South and 200 South, but only slightly off to the side.
