Let me add to the AC/DC Nickelback debate....both bands are fairly derivative IMHO and their songs sound very similar from one album to another. AC/DC to me in 2008 sound like they did in 1978, albeit with better recording techniques now.

But, to their credit, they give the people what they want and AC/DC have had a #1 album recently. They must be doing something right.

Unfortunatley, for me, when I hear an AC/DC song, I think of people at parties/weddings etc, dancing and making fools of themselves to a song that I find has little rhythm (I get the same imagery from Bob Seger "Old time rock n' roll").

Here in Ottawa, CHEZ FM must hold a lot of gratitude to AC/DC as they form a major part of their playlist.

Are you sure that they don't play the same songs all the time...ie. one announcer and a series of transmitters.

Now if that isn't the case and they are playing Nickelback at the same time, that is scary. IIRC there aren't a lot of stations in that area other than CBC.

^ There are all "different" radio stations that play a "variety" of musical genres like classic rock, alternative, and top 40. They just keep the same name and use one of those auto djs that play from the same play list. The notion is that they have local radio stations with their own djs that play the same music but it reality they all use a auto dj to play the music outside of the 9-5 shift. Which is one reason why I use a ipod FM transmitter when I drive.

no jack fm in edmonton, but "joe fm" is the exact same thing. they play stupid 80's/90's gay/loser women hits and the odd "cool" post 90's "hit". it's a really annoying station. the only thing worth listening to is 102.9 sonic and maybe once in a while the 100.3 the bear or 97.3 k-rock. that's why i turned to satellite radio. but even that is retarded after using it for 6 months. i pay for commercial free radio but get to listen to the same play-list over and over and over. wow, was alice in chains really that popular in the 90's??!?!

We had a Someguy'sname FM for a while, but it sucked so they turned it into a pop music station (24/7 N Sync and Nickelback!). It's now a country station.

no, but we have a Bob FM (rock hits from 60s-90s, "or whatever" as they say), and and a Hawk FM ("Crassic" Rock [Jurassic Rock??], Nickelback, and Nickelback, and Bryan Adams).

Birds and generic male surnames.

I have a solution for your radio woes. ipod, it's 100% commercial free and you decide what to listen to.

The Hawk broadcasts out of Woodstock, so I can pick it up here. Let me tell you, they changed formats. Now it's Top 40, the last time (and I mean the last time) I tuned in that station it was playing Britney Spears.

Options are very limited on the radio. If I turn on Toronto radio I hear April Wine or Kim Mitchell every other song. If I turn on Hamilton radio I hear Nickelback or Linkin Park every other song.

I have satellite radio and I think it's worth it, have about 100 different genres of music you can select from and it's commercial free.

Jack FM in Calgary and Jack FM in Vancouver have the same call signal, 96.9.

i'm more of a fan of the one in Calgary, even though its supposed to be the same, the stuff they play out here is worse for some reason. its all the same era, just not songs i'm familiar with or a fan of.

i switched to XM and Sirrius Satellite Radio earlier this year. i find it way more worth the time

Dude, you need to listen to CJSR during a weekday, and then tell me that Edmonton doesn't have good radio. FM 88.5, buddy.

Why did CBC FM cancel my favourite radio show? Brave New Waves, with Patti Schmidt, midnight to 4am weekdays for years and years. What happened? That radio show is responsible for about 75-80% of the music I listen to.

They have replaced it with "The Signal" I guess, which has more reasonable hours.. but the host is a weirdo. She must smoke up before doing the show. However the music is half decent.

College radio in Winnipeg is also half decent...

Power 97, "The Big Rock Station", is terrible. They have the best morning guys ever, but the worst music. The day Guns n' Roses new single came out, I heard it 9 times between 7am and 10am. I pronounced the song dead..

Guns and Roses new song is shit. I can't stand it and I wish it would just die. They FINALLY stopped playing that stupid Kid Rock song 20 times a day.

CBC Radio 1 between 1am and 5:30am here is international radio, and has been for years now. I didn't know they had any other programming at that time.

I've yet to hear any new GnR, and I'm not in a rush. I was never a fan.

Was that really necessary ?

Edmonton/ Calgary commercial radio really isn't very good at all. Luckily both cities at least have one good modern/ alt rock station and good university radio stations, And of course CKUA.

I flip between my Ipod and CJSR.

Which reminds me, I have to go pay my pledge.

Too bad you can't go to the Speakers Corner in the market anymore and complain/go postal on the place.

Why in Ontario do we price meat by the pound yet sell it by the kilo?
