Come on now it's a Leed project so we all know the wood was removed in a environmentally substainable way.
They are all recycled x-mas trees from officetowers around the city.

^^^It was worth it.

I love the amount of wood that is being utilized in Vancouver projects these days. I rarely see any other city using it. I guess it helps that we are surrounded by it and need to take care of a sick forestry industry.

It looks great. I agree that even at 800 million it will be worth it long term; this amazing facility will stand for at least many decades. Each convention pumps millions of dollars in to the Metro Vancouver and BC economy.

The parquet-esq wall finish is an extremely thin panel. And the soffit is all glulam, in case you were wondering.

$800m will be worth it, the problem is the gross budget overruns and/or horrible planning process that caused them. Don't let Gordo off the hook for that.

I am not defending Gordo. I would point out inflationary materials and labour competition before the slowdown were very difficult to foresee 5+ years ago. Many private projects saw costs soar as well. The biggest difference is the ability to adjust. Private = versatile/Public = molasses

Gordo has made some mistakes but don't be a fool; think about what could happen if the NDP were to get into power? Personally I get chills just thinking about it.

Well it cant be this worse... we have a guy who rather sell water to the Americans than keep it for us. the same guy who would rather raise the wages of his top advisors while shafting the working class. the same individual who closes down social housing and throws people on the street. the same individuals who throws seniors out of care homes and replaces them with private facilities... the list is endless.... this man has got to go....

Since this thread is about the VCCEP I don't see what this socialist propaganda has to do with the topic. Buts lets pick it apart and have some fun.

1) The reason to pay the top advisors more is to get the best quality people, you don't want bottombarrel managers running crown corporations.
2) The working class recieved a 25% tax cut in the first year of the BC Liberals being in power, that has been followed up by additional tax cuts, employment in the province is at an all time high. If this is shafting us, then give me more please.
3) Little Mountain was closed down, it's an Abestos and PCB laden site that is over 50yrs old and was barely habitable. Not a single person was thrown onto the street, they were all provided social housing in other projects, plus they have first right of refusal when the new units are completed.
