I drove past 222 just minutes ago and it looks as if they have about 70% percent of the level glassed that sits between the two floors already done and the area that sticks out. They are using the same glass that they use up the middle of the tower between the break in cladding. It looks pretty bad A**.. I really cant believe people were saying this building was going to look boring. I think it ill probably be considered one of our more progressive buildings downtown.

Oh and sadly I saw a building that was the exact same style in one of the other forums... cant find it anymore but i think it was Denver

Its in Denver, called 1900 Sixteenth Street, in Lodo. Its looks alot like 222 s main to me.

I remember taking Sandy TRAX going to school at the U, having to transfer to the bus on 2nd South (University Line was still being drawn out), and riding past that Carl's Jr. everyday scratching my head.

I walk by the Carl's Jr.almost everyday, and I loathe it. First off, I don't care for Carl's Jr. in general, but I hate what it does to that corner of State. Such a great local, and with Gallivan Plaza, the Marriott, the Children's theatre all right there! It also seems to be a major haven for vagrants and beggars. I know we've been over this topic before. Sort of a humanity vs development thing, but I think there are better uses for a site like that, and better places for those in need to congregrate and recieve help.
Anyway, I'd also like to see something built across the street where that bar is. It's two small buildings ajoined. One is empty and rotting and the other is a bar, but I can't recall the name. It's got the Olympic logo painted on the South side of it. Anyone know the one I'm talking about? I think that would be a great spot for a tower. Behind it there is just parking all the way over to 2nd east.

Downtown Rising/UTA and the City is considering placing a bus transit center on the spot of the bar and the vacant building next to it.

I think they still need to put the roof on the 21st floor and then the crown.

I was just at the Gallivan TRAX stop on the way up to school and it appears that the crown is now underway.

This ones it . Minus the stone or brick back they are very much alike. At least architecture is out of the 80s style that sucks. I wonder if buildings from the 80s will be classics one day or if we will tear them all down to spare ourselves

I remember that one as well urbanboy but I felt that one looks more like how our building would look if it was made in eastern Europe and they ran out of enough material so stole some off other buildings to finish it.

The Elliot in Portland looks a lot better than 222 S. Main. It fits in perfectly in Portland.

Well it was kind of a guess since some said it would be 21 stories while others said it would be 22. I was hoping for the 22, but deep inside I kind of know it would be 21. Just wishful thinking on my end.

I think that 222 South Main is coming along splendidly. I haven't been downtown in a while, but whenever I am I always awe at the new building. I'm happy to live in a time where new buildings are going up in Salt Lake--especially ones like 222. =D

And I know that this is mainly about 222 South Main, but like I said in the general development forum, my idea for what could go up where the Carl's Jr. Site is this:



Condos! Not too tall, but it'd be some good infill. And it incorporates the freakin Carl's Jr into the design. So although it'd be gone for a while, it'd come back! AND it'd get some good business from the tenants of the tower. Not to mention everyone else around.
