It really depends on what type of wood and how it's applied and used.....i.e. Brentwood Station and Braid Station, these stations will survive for a long time.

They will only survive if maintenance is kept up. Even if you take the best treated wood it only last about 10yrs before it starts deteriorating if left alone in the elements. With proper retreatments and care it can be made to last decades but it gets excessively expensive over time. No one likes to pay for excessively expensive maintenance.
I think there a need for more wood but internally. I love seeing those 100yr old beams in gastown and yaletown lofts. Maybe the butcher block counter tops will make a comeback.

The Downtown stations are incredible, I'm lost for words. They're much better than how I thought they would be.

It looks like the station concourses (upper levels) will have finished ceilings - not sure about the platform levels - but you can see steel trusses that look like they'll form canopies above the platform edges (I recall seeing those on the renders). Lots of conduit on the platform level around columns, so they must be encasing those columns later on.

Agreed, these stations look fantastic. Much better than I could've imagined. Doesn't Yaletown's roof look quite high?

Is Waterfront double tracked btw?

With the shared platform for the east and westbound trains, it feels very Edmonton LRT like and eerily similar to the TTC and MTA subways.

Yaletown is one of the deepest stations because the tunnel comes up from below the Creek and is close to the shoreline.

Waterfront is double tracked with centre platform between.

Not sure if the tunnels would be lit - usually they are in other systems - you see fluorescent tubes pass by.

Tunnels must be lit at least to min standards, should there be an emergency and people need to exit via the tunnels they need to see where they're going.

I couldn't agree more. They look much better than the existing ones, Especially the Expo Line. I wish they had put more thought into the Richmond stations, they come off looking like white goods.

I am sure the tunnels will be lit, but not as much as they are right now, for i am betting a lot of the extra lighting right now is from work lamps. It needs to be very bright right now in the tunnels for the construction workers. PS i like the Richmond stations

Wow, I had thought that the columns in the underground stations would end up cramping the platforms. That doesn't appear to be the case at all.

It would have been incredible if that brick wall for the concourse was a glass wall. Reminds me of some systems in Europe, particularly the one in Porto city.

I'm not so sure about the canopies going into the downtown station platforms.....I'd rather have more vertical space, feels a lot airy.

Good work on posting the renderings.

My guess is that the far wall opposite the platform will be painted black -
like at the downtown SkyTrain Stations, so you don't notice the conduits, etc.
Bare concrete would look unfinished.

WRT Waterfront, I'm glad at least half of the mezzanine appears to be open to below -
the drawings had previously shown the whole mezzanine closed in!

Here's the Vancouver City Centre Station cross section from page 1 of the thread
showing the canopies versus actual ceiling height:

And the Waterfront Station Mezzanine showing what looks like solid wallls at the top of that escalator
(why do I think that may be a retail space? - maybe a glass wall with bar stools and counter?):

This shows the angles for the following two views (note column as reference point
- escalators to Georgia Street behind column of first pic):

And these are the stairs to the connection to Vancouver Centre Mall (which is at a higher elevation than Pacific Centre),

Things change, but during the whole public consultation process there was mention of having some sort of changing lighting effect in the downtown station concourses/mezzaines/platforms to represent the rainforest or something. I vaguely remember something like that.

I think Broadway-City Hall Station will definitely be one of the three most beautiful and best designed stations in the entire Skytrain system.

Thanks a lot Henry Man. the more i see the Canada Line the more i am excited. What a great addition to our mass transit system this line will be. All the stations are looking so much better than i first thought (above and below). It just looks so clean and sleek. I guess technically Vancouver does have a subway now since more than half of the line is underground and is using heavy rail technology. (Personally to me the underground stations of the expo line feel like a subway too) All of my international friends refer to sky-train as a metro anyways, rarely, if ever, do i hear someone call it LRT. I am not debating anything, just saying what i hear.
