Regarding the "staying-brown-issue": There's some general problem with getting today's copper oxidating.
It's just too 'pure', because of improved manufacturing techniques.
But there are methods to animate the material to oxidate, or at least expedite the process.

^ Yes, I've heard that too. It's hard to get true A36 Steel these days too - most steel we get is stronger than that (too impure).

The preoxidized copper always looks fake - too uniform and too bright. It lacks the richness that only time can bring.

Rowhouses out here in Palatine were built a few years ago with copper flashing and gutters, and they've already started to get green patches. Don't know why the roof wouldn't do the same.

Is the building topped out now? While at a Halloween rooftop party, admiring the view, I noticed that the top of Elysian looked much closer to 600' than 700'. Is the roof going above the top concrete, or around it?

Looks like they are pouring floorplates within the mansard roof...

Cool vid, andydie; this one seemed to grow up so fast. The soundtrack kind of cracks me up considering the neighborhood this place is in and the type of people likely moving in once the building is complete--I'm sure techno/club music would drive them nuts. Anyway thanks for compiling all the photos together they were cool to look at.

Nice shots, Harry. This one doesn't make the impact that I thought it would, but that's ok--I'd rather have it blend in.

Seeing as the Park Tower comparisons will be inevitable once all is said and done with this one, I'm not as convinced as others here have been that Elysian will turn out better. I find Park Tower quite nice and graceful (sans a few details, particularly the balconies), but this one just looks like it's going to be a little too obvious in its posturing. Obviously any solid judgments should be withheld until completion, but from what I've seen so far it's just so...unconvincing.

Simcity, why apologize? I think those are great - they have that "endless city" quality that we all love so much. The "bad" quality only enhances the effect.

One thing your photos show is that Elysian is "placed well" within the city - of course, this was largely random, but that aspect of the development worked out. I haven't, sadly, been able to get over to that part of town for ages, but it seems to have a nice urban and dynamic quality now that was a touch lacking before.

windows?

Can anybody enlighten us why the precast is so far down and why windows aren't being installed above that podium? I heard a rumor that there were issues with the precast.

Anything nice I had to say about this one has pretty much been canceled out by the railings being installed. I checked my feeds on Google Reader today and YoChicago has recently posted some images of the railings for the balconies on the Elysian and, well, they are really crappy. I don't know what the rules are with links and all that, but here is a photo from Yo that shows them quite well. Prepare to be disappointed.

^^ Yea, I don't see anything wrong with the railings. They're substantial, which meshes with the solid brick and stone image of the building, unlike most buildings that go for thin, narrow, and insubstantial railings.
