I used to attend meetings at that building and there was never a need for more parking. There is a fairly large lot behind the building. I doubt they would use it for parking. I am sure they would build something soon. A parking lot would be horrible.

Hey, that's MY neighborhood and bridge! LOL I should post a more recent photo of it sometime. It's like right next to my house I pass over that bridge every day. If you're ever in the 'hood at night I'm on the street with all the awesome christmas lights, courtesy of yours truly

I like the emphasis that the Mayor is putting on the accomodation of more cycling downtown. I hadn't noticed these new bicycling posts yet, like this one in Steve's latest pics. I like the details like these that have continued to pop up downtown over the last few years. Another one I really like are the TRAX stops with the seagull sculptures. Those kind of details go a long way in making downtown very cool and attractive.

Has anyone taken notice of how they're coming with the finishing up of the new LDS Records Library? I'm anxious to see a pic of the corner facade, and also the stream along the curb.

Really nice work. This gives us a better feel of how Tower 1 will look when it's finish. This tower is going to add so much to the city's skyline.

Here are some photos I took awhile I was driving on the I-15 towards downtown. Not the best pics since I was driving and trying to take the pictures at the same time.

By at least we now get a feel of how tall 222 South Main is in our skyline and how it will add to it.

Feds want Port O' Call closed New Years Eve

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 Utah) - First, the U.S. Government takes control of one of Utah's most popular bars.

And now it's telling the owners of Port O' Call to get the heck out.

That’s the bottom line of a government letter to Port’s attorney received on Monday, November 24th, 2008.

The letter reads, in part:

"As you are probably aware...the...property passed to the United States Government on November 18, 2008."

"This is to notify you that (you)...must remove all items of personal property remaining on the premises not later than December 31st, 2008."

In other words, it’s a thirty day notice to vacate.

Paxton Guymon, the attorney for Port O' Call, told us last week, "The government wants to close it much sooner than we think it should."

The Port owners are described as being "offended" by this notice to vacate.

They are reportedly in negotiations with the feds, who want the Port property to expand the federal courthouse.

Guymon said, "Port O' Call could stay in business for a number of years, perhaps, until construction funding is obtained."

Perhaps, the ultimate irony is that the club which prided itself on never closing - not even on Christmas - is now being told to get out on New Year's Eve, one of it biggest nights of the year.

Guymon: "People should understand that the government has extraordinary powers."

Again, negotiations between the feds and Port reportedly are continuing.

So it’s possible the club may be able to stay open for a few months more.

But if this notice to vacate holds, the Port will only be open for another 30 days or so.

As for the U.S. Government, it has made clear to ABC 4 on several occasions it will not comment on this matter because it is before the court.

This entire situation just pisses me off. The damn feds don't need to entire half block to build their F'ing Borg Cube which brings no street value to the city, and makes that area of the city even more sterile to walk around.

The building is historic and beautiful and has been there longer than I anticipate the F'ing Borg Cube to be there.

Then the fact that they are kicking them out on New Year's Eve. To me that just shows you how much the Feds don't think, give me a break Use your F'ing brain and realize that New Years Eve is the biggest night for any club in any city. That just shows you how blantantly ignorant those in charge of building the new courthouse are. I'm surprised they aren't telling the Odd Fellows Hall that it has 30 days to get it's lazy ass moved across the street. At least give Port the same amount of time to stay in business as it takes to get Odd Fellows moved.

So they filed condemnation in court huh, what court federal court? Gee I wonder how that ruling is going to turn out.

Here's my estimation, similar to the attorney for Port. They are going to force them to close on New Years Eve. The building will then sit vacant for at least a year, at which time it will be demolished and the property will then sit vacant for another year before any construction begins.
