If they somehow combined efforts to market themselves, they would be more attractive for new businesses, especially franchises and national chains who probably just look over Main street because it is so much easier to open at the Gateway instead.

Makes sense to me? Great concept, aggregate marketing and property management. You may have hit on something.

I guess the people behind Gallivan Center are taking into consideration that the giant pond/ice rink is very inconvenient in its current location. I'm usually right up front for the twilight concert series, but it seems like it'd be a pain being in the back trying to get a good view with all that stuff there.

I also think mini-Rockefeller is a good idea, there is just a closed down restaurant there that has been closed for a long time.

What if those renderings revealed something that wasn't supposed to be revealed yet?

Here are some old photos of downtown I found online

Downtown Salt Lake City 1979

Looking Southeast from South Temple. Back before the Wells Fargo and One Utah Center Towers.

Main Street looking south. Notice the Newhouse hotel in the far back right side.

South Temple during the time the Key Bank Tower was getting built. Also notice the Inn at Temple Square and the old building that the Gateway West now stands at.

These photos were taken almost 30 years ago. Crazy to think just how much has change in that time. Here's to the next 30 years.

Why don't they just form a downtown business association, that promotes downtown as a place to live, shop, take in the arts and all that. Or do they already do this? Many cities do such things to promote the commercial districts downtown. Boise does it and it has been VERY successful.. where such advertisements on tv. just advertise the "downtown experience" and then include individual businesses in the marketing of it. It's much like a mall in marketing respects.. they issue even gift cards that are just downtown boise gift cards and are redeemable at any downtown establishment. I'm sure salt lake does something like this? if not... it would be a great idea.

They already have the Downtown Alliance and then there is the SL Chamber of Commerce.

Both groups push for more development of Residential, Retail, Commercial space, The Arts, Transit, Transportation, Tourism and about anything else that you can think of that would benefit Downtown SLC.

What is the building that you highlighted on the right?

I don't think that those 2 floors were a part of the original building. I believe that they were added later.

I hate how they use "tower" so freely around here.

They did the first concrete pour of the foundation for Tower 5. And, yes, those piles were all new for Tower 5. The tops of the piles are exposed, and I am assuminug that they will begin the assembly of the the reinforcing bars for the rest of the foundation. With that in mind, they might have the foundation complete within a week or two.
