Don't know about WPP but the other ones you mentioned are doing fine and are moving ahead quickly now.

On this topic of downtown being vibrant, I'm curious, does anyone know what the situation with the strip clubs in Vancouver is?

If the Cecil isn't getting torn down I guess that'll mean a temporary respite from peeler bar closures. The Marble Arch closed, the Cecil nearly went, the Penthouse will probably be condos soon.. last time I tried the Drake it was shut. But there don't seem to be any new ones. I always thought having a number of strip clubs made Vancouver unique and less stuffy. Does the city have a policy to get rid of them?

It would be cool to have a little red light district with several strip clubs and the XXX shops that are leaving Granville. Maybe it could be near Chinatown.. it would make a great tourist attraction too. Sort of like the Reeperbahn in Hamburg.

There is no policy against strip clubs, the issue is obtaining a liqour license , that is a very lengthy and involved process. It pretty well requires the blessing of the police dept and that's usually where it would get shot down as strip clubs tend to be run by people the police don't like. If a reputable business person tried to open a "gentlemens club" in an suitable location the city would probably grant it. The problem is there are less and less suitable locations, and reputable people don't tend to get into that line of work.

This is exactly my point, Vancouver losing variety and flavor to bland condos.

Here's a pic of the bland - taken by me today - it's getting up there in height. Dolce across the alley is on the first above grade level.

The application for the Pacific Centre rotunda addition/redevelopment (701 West Georgia) has been withdrawn. I'm guessing either the tenant has bounced and it is undergoing a major redesign, or Cadillac has put it on the shelf for the time being amid the current economic situation.

It's still listed on the DPB just has no meeting date scheduled. Of course the board hasn't been updated in 3 weeks now so it's possible it's been scrapped. Anyone have any insight?

Just got this e-mail:

Quote:
We'd like to let you know that we will be closing the 999 Seymour Sales Centre on December 1, 2008. Our lease has expired.
The e-mail goes on to say that listigs will be available via MLS.

The location being closed is the MetroLiving sales centre on Homer Street.

regarding the pacific centre. i think the tenant that was going to go in was Abercrombie and fintch and they are holding off from opening any new stores in canada now. this may be why cadilac withdrew their expansion plans

The Marble Arch was bought by an evangelical Christian. Champagne Charlie's closed down a long time ago, too. The NBI (North Burnaby Inn) was converted to a liquor store.

There's the number 5 orange, and I think that's about it... (not that I frequent those places... )

Looks pretty nice. Too bad it'll be used by CBC, though

CBC is one of the only station I watch. Love their fully HD programming and documentaries. Also watch CTV a bit, but news and some programs I watch aren't in HD...

The network needs more money for quality programming.

The Marble Arch is owned by Atira Property Managment, who in conjunction with BC Housing run the Hotel as a SRO. I dont think the mormans have owned it for quite some time.
