I always get asked about why I'm taking pictures, or what I'm taking pictures of. It doesn't always happen actually as I'm usually pretty quick to snap a photo and move on, but on the ones where I set up my tripod and wait a few minutes is usually where it happens. At the 360 grand opening 3, three! people asked me why I was taking pictures of the building. It was interesting too, as I was asked that question by the artist of the mobile in the lobby, (beautiful piece of art), a construction worker who crafted it, and the artist of the guitar sculpture beside the building.

I believe the floor count numbers on the Austinian are gone.

Yes, they are gone on the tower portion. Hopefully that's just temporary.

I was looking at this last photo I took of the W:

And I noticed what appears to be another crane base set up in the NE section. I walked by there today after lunch (at Lambert's -- soooo full!) and, sure enough, they do have another crane base there. 3 cranes on one project? Also, they just started putting up supports for the next level of the garage. Progress!

[edit] Okay, after writing that I realized the third crane base is probably for the concrete pump.

Hello all I'm a new member but a long time lurker. I work for J C Evans construction so if any of you guys have any questions on any of our job sites in or around the Austin metro area i'll be more then happy to tell you what i know.

Welcome to the forum. I went to the JC Evans website to see what projects they have under construction and that part of the website was under construction.

What major projects are you guys working on? Do you know of any building heights?

They have been having that same message for the past 3 years....I sure am glad they keep up with it.

As far as major projects we are working on the hwy 79 expansion between Thrall and Thorndale. We have done multiple parts of the old mueller airport. Right now we are working on the back part of it right off of Manor Road just about a block up from the ATC tower. My company doesn't actually build the buildings. We do mainly site prep, pipe laying, wet and dry utilities, roads and other things along those lines.

There was one project I had read that your company had restored. I'm not sure if this was actually correct though, but there's a water tower near Mansfield Dam on a hill overlooking the 620 Bridge across the river. You guys were listed as the construction company (renovation).. The water tower was renovated to resemble a lighthouse. It's actually called the Lakewind Water Tower. It also has a flashing light that flashes in such a way that it appears to be a rotating light. It was restored in 2000.

I believe this is a photo of it. It's 157 feet tall.

That's a great photo of the "west side". I always thought the "lighthouse" was part of some eccentric millionaire's home.

There is another one out there that is part of a mansion. I think it's in Jonestown. I like this one better. This would also be one of the tallest inland "lighthouses" in the state.

Was at the Elephant Room last nite (3rd and Congress) and noticed a banner on the north side of the Austonian for the 25th floor...that sucker is really gonna stand out.

Also, some of the info is out of date.
For example they are still showing the original T Stacey proposal (5th & Congress) as pending.

There is another construction project downtown that I just noticed today, that's just beginning. It's at 811 Trinity. Nothing to get excited about, however. It's just a parking garage for the Baptist church next door.

And there are plenty of condos on the market. I think we still have about 30 units available at the Sabine.

Hey Kevin I wouldnt be surprised if we did that, we have been pretty steady for quite a few years with work in that area. As a matter of fact we have a job right after you cross over the dam on the lakeway side and we just got the contract for a water line that will be connecting into the steiner ranch water supply

This was the same as the Community Impact Newspaper that I recieved in my mailbox, it is big time sales derived. It has a great graffic of the skyline.

Told my sixth grade daughter she could help drive when we go to see the stacy building breaking ground. She should have a few years driving under her belt by then or i will be to old to drive.
