There was an article in the Dartmouth Weekly today. It says they may break ground in October. Here's hopin!

Good chance its the ymca one, but remember there is an 80 million dollar rcmp station being built as well, which is a significant project due to start spring 2009 as RFEIQ is closing August 1.

Break ground? maybe for the infastructure or infill. The development still needs to go through a number of other hearings.

Yah. I am well aware of the rest of the process. It's still good though that they can start the work. It will take at least a year worth of enabling works before they can start building any of the buildings. And I would assume no one would be allowed to live or work on the site until the second access is open also.

Any sense of where the second access road will be located? I haven't seen a recent site plan. It will be good to have the buildings demolished. JET

I believe it's planned for the foot of Prince Street, and it's going to have some sort of spiral to get it above the rail tracks... not quite sure how that's going to look

That's the one bit of this project that worries me. It could look like concrete hell.... but they need road access that isn't blocked by trains for emergencies so they had to do something. I don't know if this was the best solution or not.

Agreed; I would have liked to have seen them tunnel under the tracks. Ideally it would be nice to have the tracks slightly elevated and the road under it, but CN can't afford to close that line down for the amount of time it would take to complete the work...

Of course, another idea I just thought of while looking at the map, why couldn't they build a short bridge along side the tracks across the canal, connecting the development with the mainland around the end of Canal Street. Although I suppose Dominion Diving owns that land right there.

There was a posting recently about the new bridge over the canal near the proposed King's wharf development; but I can't find it.

The bridge was put up a few weeks ago, but the approaches are still not complete. I take back what I said about it though. It actually looks very nice and has a good design.

I looked out the window today and there is an excavator doing work on site. There are a few piles of new dirt. I don't know what this means exactly, but it has to be good

When I saw that something was happening on site I emailed Fares to find out what was going on. Here's what I got back:

Thank you for your email and interest in King's Wharf.

We have had several trades on site to do construction quotes and hopefully we will be able to start in December. This would be for the infrastructure only.

It is great to see that people are watching in the downtown area and interested enough to keep a "look out". We are so enthusiastic about the project and are confident that everyone will share in the passion and excitement once we go to market with Phase 1 in late winter.

I didn't even know this got approved!

But wow this Trillium and Salter Street....

2009 is shaping up to be a good year!

Wasn't sure where to post this put I have found some excellent webcams with views of many projects in the CBD

I don't believe this is a complete go yet. If I remember correctly council approved the upgrades to the lot (infrastructure), and the development itself will be presented for approval in phases.

Atleast we'll be able to see that god awful eyesore gone for good now. I'd rather look at an empty lot than those marine slips.

Still no update on the website, but I got an update pdf from them on the mailing list. They said work will be ongoing for the infrastructure on site. They are looking at going to council very soon for the approval of the design of Phase 1, which just so happens to be the 30 storey tower. And they did happen to include an initial rendering.

Based on this first rendering I'm not a huge fan of it. It is very nice. Just not what I was hoping for. I was hoping for something more along the lines of what was in the last rendering. I wanted to see all glass. I do however really like the look of the public area. Looks very modern

I'm just happy that the tower is phase 1 and I really hope this thing gets approved... Downtown Dartmouth will look dramatically improved by this development alone.
