Amazing that your distaste for certain architecture is slowly but surely extending to a disregard for some of the better parts of our city. You sure you have the stomach to move back here? If so, I'm confident that your self described brilliance will rub off on some of the these hack architects that are actually being paid the big bucks to design buildings in this city......:-) Just gotta razz you a bit Alliance :-)

I can't believe that in a city with as much architectural savvy as Chicago , they would go ahead with a project like this. I think its just awful.

I just expect SO much from Chicago. Easily my favorite skyline in the world. Depth, character, age, history.... PERFECTION!

So what material are they gonna use for the tower roof?
I hope something of high grade - such as copper, tiles, bronze or at least sophisticated substitutes.
Plain panel sheet or even tar-supported panels would look absolutely ridiculous.

Haha. I'm not brilliant, but I also don't believe if someone is paid to do a job they do it well. I do want to come back, because love is greater than all of my distaste...and I have a strong stomach lol.

I was under the impression that they're going to use copper...I think it was talked about early on in the thread, like 1,000 post ago or so. Most forumers seemed to feel that it would be a low grade copper, that instead of turning green like it should, it would turn brown instead. I think it was brought up that park tower used the cheap copper, to give you an idea.

for the record though, it was a long time ago, and for all i know maybe park tower didn't really use copper, and maybe they were just speculating that copper was going to be used on this.

Park Tower does have a copper roof. The architects claim that it will not patina to the light green oxidized look because of pollutants in the air.

I am not an expert on copper, so I can't really make any comment as to whether this is a believable explanation or whether it was just "cheap."

(And before anyone jumps down my throat by taking this out of context, this is not meant to imply that I am an expert on every topic I comment on. )
