SLC: Official 222 S Main Construction thread

Well, Steve beat me to it. Here are the photos I took. I think that the facade will look real nice when the building is completely wrapped.

You've probably been wondering what 222 looks like at 2:00 in the morning with an iPhone...well your wait is over!

We drove pass 222 South Main last night. My wife was blown away to just how fast the tower popped up.

It's unfortunate the tower isn't taller. It's always hard to imagine how it would look before it rises, but in my head I thought it would be taller.

According to the quick facts on the 222 site, one of the 8 elevators can act as a fright elevator , I guess that's exciting for Halloween time. lol.

I was wondering why didn't they ever think about a mid-block link to connect the Gallivan Plaza to restaurant row on Pierpont Avenue. With all of the effor that the City Creek Center and the proposed art center down regent street, it would seem that SLC would have tried to get 222 to give a little room for a mid-block access to Pierpont Avenue. I'm sure that would have made a good selling point to prospective tenants. They could walk through a pleasant mid-block path to Cafe Pierpont, Bache Trattoria, and then over to Squatters, etc. Having a link from Pierpont Avenue would have been great!! People could eat on Pierpont Avenue and then walk over one block to the Gallivan Plaza. Just being able to see from Pierpont Avenue to the Gallivan Plaza would attract and encourage a lot more activity between the two places and Main Street. Oh weel, maybe 20 years later they'll realize that was a missed opportunity and demo part of the building then.
