What to do with our mods??

I figured I'd start a poll asking whether others think we should get rid of the moderators on this forum?
I've had several posts deleted over the months which were completely harmless. I've also received PM's from others stating the same thing.
Moderators exist to make sure that people don't get into personal barbs or completely troll or derail discussions.

Should they stay or should they go??

I love our mods. I see them more as 'hosts' who make the forum a more welcoming, hospitable place. Like any good host, sometimes they have to take away the keys. I also like having someone local to ask forum-related questions. Vive les mods!

You seem to be under the impression that the forum is a democracy...

Just a word of advice here, the chance of you getting rid of mods is very, very low. If you are doing a poll, it's all for show.

thanks for chiming in from oil land.
I'm doing a poll because I'm tired of innocent little comments being deleted in our local forum.
I participate in other forums and never see the kind of heavy-handedness we experience here.
Today it was capped off by me cracking a quick joke towards another forumer about his/her love for 'The Office'. My joke was immediately deleted, yet another member posted the identical joke this morning and everyone got a kick out of it (because it was funny, heaven forbid) and it wasn't deleted.
Clearly we don't have guidelines and procedures for what is and isn't deleted. It's simply on the whim of another forumer who appears to cherry-pick when to delete and when not to.

This may not be a 'democracy' but it's an online chatroom. Last time I checked there was no governance over such domains (unless you live in China, or get into hate-speech, racism etc....).

Back to your oil patch now....

I've had a post deleted, one of the Mod even said it was a mistake. Life goes on, who cares about a few posts here and there.

I'd vote to keep the Mods.

RTH post was deleted because and I quote "that's when you know it's time to get a life. lol" really isn't appropriate even if you include a smiley or lol.

When chit chatting you can tell if the person is being serious or not. But unfortunately on message boards you can't.

I say get rid of them. I don't like having my posts deleted. And I have had a lot of posts needlessly deleted.

I think they're doing a great job. The discussion cleaned up quite a bit with them around, and I appreciate it because I would always read all the garbage before and then be kicking myself for the time I'd wasted. In fact I think they should excercise a bit less restraint in deleting things. I guess they're bound to step on some toes along the way and this is one of those instances.

so far 18% of voters have chosen to get rid of the moderators. If we run this board like Canadian elections we've almost got minority-government support levels. The mods are almost history!
