.

it's not so much the expected increase in population thats driving the major road infrastructure projects in the SJ area as much as it is the badly needed improved infrastructure for commerical purposes....either way, the end result is the same as you point out...improve the "arteries" = improved overall circulation and health.

? unsure if it's an 'official' announcement or if it's a prelude to an official announcement

I've heard mur murs about a brewpub opening up on Princess. I'm not sure if this would be the same thing.

The renovations at the building that is located at Murder Hill, beside the soon to be built Harbourfront Condos have started. There was a big crew working today.

Great news on the Costco update. This will certainly increase the number of people from the outlying communities coming into the city to do their shopping.

SJ contributes lion's share of healthy real estate salesOctober 23, 2008
By: News 88-9's DeniseBarkhouse

SAINT JOHN, NB - The province is headed for another banner year for real estate sales.

This year is expected to meet, if not exceed, last year's residential billion dollar mark, and most of the increase this year, is being fueled by MLS sales in Saint John.

Saint John Real Estate Board President Peter Pappas tells us the market strength is a direct result of projects underway in the city.

The average MLS residential price in the Saint John region is also well above the provincial average with homes selling on average for nearly 160 - thousand dollars.

^ nice to see the tide turning and consistent gains being made not only on the commercial front, but on the residential side as well

it would be nice to see how the unit distribution breaks down (single, multiunit, etc) . . . also keep in mind that as prices of houses go up in the SJ area in particular, this does tend to skew the total sales numbers (dollar amount) in the province

It could be the case that the provincial numbers were simply below what they could have been because for so many years, SJ had lower construction rates.

Also, as you've discussed over hte past few months, the average price of a home in SJ has increased significantly since last year.

Cool picture of the crane. I heard on the radio this week that construction on Princess is going to start shortly to revamp the sidewalk areas and move all wiring, etc.. underground. Should be a nice face lift for the area.

I was speaking w/ a colleague of mine in Fredericton this week and she tells me Costco announced a new store in that market will be coming soon. Seems odd to me that they envision 3 stand-alone stores in NB being viable ..

true...and from what i gather the SJ store will be their largest...but companies like this wouldnt even think of building unless a cost / revenue analysis showed good profit margins...
