I think the park is perfect and is just what the area needs.

I wouldn't call it perfect, but its pretty damn good. If you look at it there are two logical axises that cross the site and make short cuts, but they also have some side paths where you can go off to the side and be a bit more secluded from anyone just passing through, it really is a pleasant experience in real life...

I'm not sure that this is the most sophisticated design-- it's kind of a one-liner-- but it's definitely in keeping with the irreverent architecture and offers a nice counterpoint to the highly rational, orthogonal layout of the area.

But, as I've said, I haven't been there to "experience" the oh-so-provocative-anti-orthogonality.

Though, I will point out as a matter of personal design principle that to make a statement, you don't have to go off the deep end making an anti-statement. Utilitarianism is an epic design principle. Its legacy in Chicago is indomitable. I'm surprised you brush it off so carelessly as inappropriate in all degrees.

I'm sure the residents of Streeterville were very disappointed that they weren't gifted with a wind-blown plaza of uninterrupted concrete with an abstract statue in the middle and various haphazardly placed rectangles of greenery, each efficiently placed and designated for appropriate use: dog urination, picnic, etc. Such greenery would be no larger than absolutely needed, less it veer into dreaded unutilitarian territory. The statue would be a utilitarian symbol of the functionality of parks and open space. Maybe a cubist likeness of a peeing dog or something, arranged such that it is convenient for dogs to pee upon.

I'm as big a fan as of utilitarianism in architecture as any - and that includes many Modernist plazas. But in parks serving residential neighborhoods? I haven't been since completion, but this one is pretty interesting by most measures. As ardec has pointed out, it defies simple categorization, which is an achievement in itself assuming it does actually become well utilized by the neighborhood.

I've long been a fan of 353 n clark. Mostly because it was such a perfect building to fill a gap from about 10 different angles. Looks great.

I was walking by Walton on the Park today, and they were taking down the crane... it had just been put up 2 weeks ago... Does anyone know if this project is on hold now, or was the crane just defective?

Either way it doesn't look good. If there is something wrong with the current crane, this will cause a delay. We can only hope that tjis isn't a sign that the building is being put on hold.

Minor (1-2 week) delay only. Crane had installation issues.

Does anyone have an idea about what's going on with the Milenium Park Plaza appartment tower? The disgusting La Strada restaurant has been closed for some time now.

Given the proximity to MP, I would have thought that this one would have begun by now.
