The best thing about the Cityfront Plaza plan was that it reoriented the tallest tower on axis with the plaza itself, as compared to the Grand Pier proposal which made no sense in that regard. The master plan is still with us, just hopefully with better design.

It's a shame the weakest of those three designs was the only one executed...

Well this shows the silver lining to the economic downturn. Some mediocre projects die too - this thing was a very lame homage to Tribune Tower. And the fact that Hovey acquired the site is a big cherry on top.

Very good news indeed. We need more buildings from our good home grown designers like Hovey, Gang, Valereo, Ronan and the like.

not really, becayse whatever comes along next could possible enhance what's already built. Remember, when Centrum came in, they were working with a shell of a parking garage.

I've seen one in Rosslyn, VA that has a 2-4 pump gas station and a 10+ story tower on top. Actually, the only one I've ever seen was this one.

^^ I love that building. I know some, like honte, have complained the glass looks like a suburban office park, but thats exactly what the area needed, IMO.

^I agree 100%. That area needed some "pop" with some sort of verity to offset the beige jungle. This does the job very well.

You must not have seen my post a while back wherein I stated that I'd softened my opinion a bit. I agree 100%, and always have, that this is miles ahead of the painted concrete facades that populate that area.

I still have some reservations about how sterile the facade glass is, and I think it's weak in the details, but I do find many things appealing about the building. I'm not ready to say I love it, but it's a step in the right direction.

just look at that reflection it casts! I'm not sure how you can call that "sterile" I think it is quite the opposite, given its surroundings of course. For the area, its leaps and bounds in the right direction.

(that is a product of cityofblindinglights's photography skills too I must add)
