Courtesy dictates that people without umbrellas get priority use of the awnings - that even trumps the "keep right" rule.

I wish more people knew of and practiced the keep right rule when there's no rain....grrr...I hate doing the sidewalk dance!

Shangri-la is now accepting reservations for January 24th, 2009. Room rates start at $345 / night ($505 in Summer).

^They really need to get rid of that crappy rendering on their site. They could take a perfectly good picture of the real thing by now.

Yeah, but who'd want to stay in a place with a visible crane?

This photo doesn't have much to do with the Shangri la but it is probably one of the best pictures ever posted on Skyscraperpage and I just wanted for you guys to see it and here it is.

I find this so wierd that there is that much land left in this city. It reminds me as if we were to build these buildings on the false creek flats.

incredible, our skyline is probably half of the things in the picture. Being a native of such a city, I'd say shanghai is the most post-modern looking place I have ever been to.

They wash their windows in an odd pattern. Wonder where they keep their crane?

does anyone know how the ShangraLa would fit into this pic?

would it just be a non building?

just trying to visualize it in the context of other cities

what bu8ilding is it close to size wise in the pic?

SL wouldn't even dent the Lujiazui skyline (the skyline that has the Jin Mao and SWFC), but it would stand out in Puxi depending where it was located.

Here's a picture of the Jing An district from my rooftop. SL is about the same height as Park Place (the office tower on the far right). If you look very closely you can see the Jin Mao an SWFC to the left of Plaza 66 (the tallest tower pictured).

The Lujizui skyline is quite tall with a large amount of buildings topping 200m. The SL would be an afterthought if it was located here.

The last pic looks dense yet there is acres of land around Jin Mao and SWFC, can you imagine if they fill that land!

It's all either filled or in the process of being filled.

I think he is refering to the tower in the park design of Jin Mao and SWFC. I'm not a big fan myself... but the towers themselves are two of my favourites in the world.

Oh right. Well, welcome to the wonderful world of Pudong. That whole area of Shanghai has become some bizarre vertical version of a North American suburban business park. Probably the least pedestrian friendly neighborhood in all of Shanghai.
Have you been LC?

I'll be heading to Shanghai later this year and staying in the SWFC at the Park Hyatt... hopefully it's not that unfriendly of a neighborhood...
