Did you used to work in print (for the Tribune)?

I posted this over on the moderator thread, but thought I would post it here as well....

Thank you all for your nominations, and voice of support. As a moderator on this forum I look forward to the future of Skyscraperpage forums, and the many great topics and information that all of its contributors bring forth.

Being a new moderator on this forum I would like to bring up a few things right up front. Just a few reminders.....

1. Treat your fellow forumers with respect. They are entitled to their own views & opinions, and if you dont agree with their view or opinion you do not have to banish them to the dark corners of the universe.

2. Language is a big one. Watch your language, as this is a respectable forum, and not a drunken sailor swear fest.

3. Trolling. We seem to have people who troll anything, and everything against a certain city, religion, political group, development, or person. A prime example would be the Utah image and large LDS population. Yes, I do not need to point out that we have a large LDS population in Utah, and I also do not need to point out the stereotypes. Two of the largest heated debate topics are religion and politics. Anytime you bring one of these up, you are headed for a major debate, and or rebuttal. So, do not Troll looking to start an argument and/or debate. There are other places to post those debates, and this being a Skyscraperpage forum is not meant for that.

4. Image postings. I cannot stress this enough. please follow proper photo image posting criteria. credit your photo sources with the name of the photographer & the link to the image.

As Always thanks for your time,

Sincerely,

Viperlord

Nah--I was a circulation drone/dispatcher. Basically I goofed off on the internet 40+ hours per week. It was a gig to get through school. I loved the location, and didn't mind the job, but I much prefer what I'm doing now.

Salutations

Hello Forumers! Like many before me, I've been following this thread (and all the associating Utah threads) for quite some time, and finally decided to join up so I could throw my two cents in from time to time.
Like I said, I've been following it for a long time. I stumbed upon it a while ago and was amazed to find so many people who were as interested in this sort of stuff as I am. It was thrilling to be able to get so much information, as well as so many interesting opinions each day. I've been following long enough to know that Viperlord is the "Inside Man," getting detailed info to us probably before it reaches it's entended destination! Long enough to know that T-Mac is our eyes, and quite talented at that. Long enough to know that Future Mayor has got my vote.
You get the picture.
Anyway, I'm not an urban planner or anything (although I did consider going into it in college) but I've always had an interest in such things, and pride myself on being a responsible, participating community member. I moved to the Salt Lake area a while ago, and have since moved right downtown. I absolute love it. I sometimes have to go to my garage and start my car and run it for a second or two so that it doesn't fall apart from lack of use. I walk or take the train everywhere. Anyway, I could go on forever, but now that I'm signed up I'll have plenty of chances to sound off, so I'll just cut it here.

Welcome Scott,

I am glad to hear that you are a downtown resident. That is cool. I am a 40 hour a week downtown resident(worker) for an engineering firm LOL. Also, I liked your quote about me being a "person in the know" I dont know about that one, I am really just nosey, and sticking my nose in other developers business. LOL

Anyways, we hope you enjoy your stay here at the forum, and since you are a downtowner we hope that you will let us know of anything that you see happening in your neighborhood.

Welcome Scott--I worked downtown for ten years, and that got me hooked on development--after that I lived in the avenues for an additional three years before moving out to the burbs to be closer to my job. But a big part of me is looking forward to moving back downtown someday. It's a great city.

Good to hear from you--I'm glad you de-lurked. I mostly lurk myself, but it's nice to hear from new people too.

And Viperlord, keep being nosey.

Welcome Scott, and thank you for your future vote.

I worked in the Trib/NAC building for a couple of years myself and I too absolutely loved working downtown. It was at that time that I bought my house near Liberty Park and absolutely loved working and living so close to the city. I'm currently in the suburbs but am looking forward to getting back into the city as quickly as possible. I debate moving right to the cbd, or back into my house, I love both neighborhoods.

I agree it would be nice to add a few window to the south facade of the trib building. It would go a long way in adding some light to the common areas of that building and thus reducing the buildings carbon footprint. One thing that has be to taken into consideration is the use of historic tax credits. If the city or the eventual developer (I'm still hoping to do this project) work towards using historic tax credits they (I) will have to decide the amount of credit that the development needs in order to be financially feasible. If a developer were to go for the highest level of HTC they wouldn't be able to add windows to the south facade, however they may be able to add a few if they went for a lower level of compliance.

Hey what does everyone else on here think about a get to know you meet? Sometimes I think it would be a good idea, but on the other hand I think sometimes it's nice to keep our anonymity.

There is something to protecting our anonymity... After all, I was supposed to have a show-down with UrbanBoy on the future site of the Goldcntry Memorial Sky Walk at CityCreek when I was out there this summer... Luckily I forgot to tell him what I looked like! Nevermind that I'm the guy who slightly resembles a dancing tomato...

Welcome scott! have a drink with us! Nah I'm only jazzin' ya.

Anyhoos.... about the meeting up idea... well since you are going to be running for mayor in 2019 It might be a good idea to have the future mayor in my back pocket someday... hehe But then again maybe not cuz I'd feel completely out of my league meeting alot of you, since I'm not an architect OR urban planner... Just someone that likes to put in my two cents all the time until it ends up being more like ten cents...

Also if I met you guys in person I'd be less likely to verbally trash ya'll in the forum if it pleased me to do so...

BTW I've got a thread going in the architectural discussions forum... Topic is Beautiful Capitol buildings in the Americas if you haven't seen it yet.

Welcome Scott!! It's funny how each of use keep coming out of the woodworks - I wonder how many more there are! I personally was reading the forum daily for a good six months before I chimed in - now I wish I had done it much earlier. I have read the Salt Lake Tribune religiously everyday during the five years I have lived away, and I just love the city!

Update: I had an interview today with Goldman Sachs for their Salt Lake City office - everyone keep your fingers crossed for me! I will keep you all posted, but I would LOVE to move back to the city!!! yeeeeee!!!

Speaking of TANGELD_SLC's avatar, I thought you might all enjoy this funny SNL parody of the Vice Presidential Candidates Debate:

For anyone interested in the status of Howa's development on 300 West between 500 and 600 North: Supposedly site prep work will begin this week on the west side of 300 W for a group of 3 buildings, 2-3 stories, all commercial. A mixed-use project for the east side of the street is still in distant plans.

That's good news. 2-3 stories isn't really tall, but it's better then nothing.
