Raising the crane at the W.
On Friday morning I went out early on my bike for a ride. Stopped first by the W and, lo and behold, a huge crawler crane was there with various crane parts scattered about.
I've been a little confused for a while about the 3 crane bases. They installed the white and yellow ones, but the gray base has stayed there on the side. At first I thought maybe they were going to swap out the white base for the gray one, especially when I saw them digging out around the slab.
Nothing happens quickly on the work site, and I needed to get my exercise in, so I took off on my bike back to I-35, biked across the bridge, snapped this pic:
Rode down Riverside and stopped at Joe's Crab shack for this pic:
Note the Austonian and Four Seasons starting to pop up:
Then rode down to Congress and went back across the bridge to downtown and went back to the W site. And I saw that instead of swapping out the bases, they kept white for the below ground part and gray segments for the rest.
I did eventually need to work that day, so that was it for me.
Saturday morning I rode down to see how it was coming. And I brought my super-wide angle lens to see if I could get the whole crane in frame.
There are still yellow crane pieces waiting to go:
