We need to keep discussions about the Perineum development out of this thread and in the MSA thread... hehe

BTW I like your idea about the ball, urbanboy. As for something cooler than the ball, how about a collapsing steel tower of some kind? Something re-useable, of course.
They could even re-build key bank every year and implode it on new years eve. Just some thoughts.

I just remembered something.... So I'm driving down 13th south today and I noticed that the rotating "Nightmare On 13Th" sign claimed it was "Rated #1 In America"...... I've never been there because I heard it was stupid but now I think I might check it out next month.

You might not be disappointed if it's your first visit. Their effects are top-notch, since they don't start from scratch each year. But usually I feel like I've seen a good portion of their show before, the employees aren't that into it, and you feel like you're moving through it in a big herd. Just my opinion.

People like to think Salt Lake haunted houses are lame, but I've been to other haunted houses in other states and while ours might not be scary, they're like a Hollywood production compared to those outside of Utah.

It's not a surprise the place was rated #1 in America. Though I haven't been to it since 2003.

I believe work has started back up on the broadway park lofts again, does anyone want to confirm this next time they are downtown shooting photos.

Perhaps also, if there's time, an update on the Odd Fellows move?

Trolley Square sprucing up for holidays - Renovation of main building should be done by November - Skylights will brighten shadowy corridors, and a glass elevator will whisk shoppers to stores

http://www.sltrib.com/business/ci_10514576

(Jim Urquhart/The Salt Lake Tribune)

Some of the many changes

- One of the first orders of business was to make the 160,000-square-foot building less forbidding. A profusion of skylights installed in the roof allow more natural light to spread through the shadowy interior.

- Service corridors that ended in scary cul-de-sacs with no exits were eliminated, allowing shoppers to stroll easily through the building and giving tenants room to add more floor space.

- The Pottery Barn, one of Trolley's anchor tenants, will double in size, to 22,000 square feet. Another anchor, Williams Sonoma, is increasing its space by 20 percent, to 8,000 square feet.

- A glass-encased elevator under construction in the center court ended the need for an old escalator on the building's east end. New stairs were constructed on both the east and west ends.

- On the west end of the upper floor,
a large mechanical room was removed. Less-obvious seismic and electrical upgrades will ensure the life of the building for years, Bard said.

- On other fronts, a two-level underground parking garage is nearly complete. The garage will replace the old above-ground parking structure on the west end of Trolley Square.

- After the new garage is opened in November, work will shift to the east side of the property, where a 53,000-square-foot Whole Foods grocery store will be constructed. It's set to open in two years.

- The project involves construction of two new retail buildings and an expansion of the existing Restoration Hardware building on the north side of the Trolley Square property. Those projects will be finished next spring.
All three will be built atop the underground garage. A 7,000-square-foot building will be constructed on the south end of the garage. A 12,000-square-foot structure tacked onto the Restoration Hardware building will sit above the north end of the garage. In the middle will be a 15,000-square-foot structure.
The roof of the underground garage will serve as the floor of all three projects, Bard said.
Similarly, the Whole Foods building on the northeast corner of 500 South and 700 East will be the base of a parking structure, with two floors above the store.

"It is going to be fabulous when it's finished, and I think they are really going to attract a lot of good stores," said Cathy Kirkpatrick, owner of The Secret Garden, a children's clothing store that has been in Trolley Square since 1998. "It's a very unique, historical place, and there are not many places like that."

I've been their twice. 2004, 2005. But haven't been back since. It was alot of fun. But that's the only haunted house I've been too so I don't know any better.

Yes, work has begun again on Broadway Park Lofts. I did not catch a photo but they are building again. Hopefully it continues through completion.

According to an e-mail from our good buddy Silus Grok this morning...

Re: broadway park lofts
About eight weeks ago, work on the lofts came to an abrupt halt as the financing bank (along with banks across the country, in the shadow of the mortgage meltdown) initiated a review of its builder loans. At this time, the incremental checks for the project were suspended while the project's books were examined. It took about 3 weeks to complete the review, and the project passed. Once the money flow restarted, it took about two weeks for the contractors to return to the site (they had landed work elsewhere, I imagine). It's now been a little over three weeks, and the project has been full-speed-ahead ever since the resumption of work.

The elevator shaft has been completed and topped and all but the last few rows of cinder block have been laid on the back building. I'm expecting the back building to be topped this week. The roughing-out of the interior spaces has also begun, and yesterday the masons started moving scaffolding in preparation for installing the exterior stair ways.

My understanding is that the only thing that is standing in the way of the project, now, is the city's delay in completing the permitting process for the front two buildings.

Photo updates should be coming soon.

I was just thinking that the Broadway Park Lofts will be yet another major addition to what is becoming a very visually attractive area for a walking tour. I visit that area regularly, for some of the best canoli anywhere. I admit to being a canoli slut.
I am hoping that the Broadway Park project inspires similar style projects throughout downtown. It has a very classic feel to it that will definately stand the test of time. Fifty years from now, it will still be as attractive and stylish, as it is upon completion.

Here are some pictures I took with my iphone back in January of both the inside of the Boston Building and it's views of the surrounding City. I was able to get inside the building during the beginning phases of its renovation, I just haven't gotten around to posting these until now. Hope you enjoy:

Urbanboy, thanks for the photos. What an amazing building. I am so glad that Hamilton Partners has renovated this building. The Boston and the Newhouse are definitely treasures to our city. You captured it well. I really like your views look north up Main Street as that has already changed with the addition of 222 South Main. Hamilton Partners has really taken to Salt Lake City, with the renovation of the Boston building, the purchase of the Lollin and Karrick buildings and the building of 222 South Main. They have gathered quite a portfolio.

GREAT pics Urbanboy!
My cousins actually worked on the Boston Building... They've got all the intricate antique radiators that they were going to throw away and are restoring them. They'll be sweet looking in any house they put 'em in.

Delts I totally agree. I am super excited for this project. I love its design and location. I love how many red brick buildings the pioneer park neighborhood will boast. , It makes me wish Allen Millo would incorporate some red brick into metro park west. ... can't wait to see what else these guys come up with in the future.

Thanks Urbanboy for the pics of one of my favorite areas anywhere in any city. I have to say that some of the most beautiful buildings in America are represented along those two blocks.
