doing the math I dont get the Austonian. The floors are 10 feet and 6 inches between adding an extra 2 for the 1st floor and 10th that means 590 to the roof. Looking at it next to the ashton it will be on floor 36 when it reaches that height. so what makes for the additional 32 feet to the roof. It appears to maybe be 650 with the crown but not 683. Call me crazy but these numbers dont add up.

My guess is the smaller crane on the left, with the extending boom, is used to assemble the larger portable crane pieces. Then that crane will be used to assemble the tower cranes. And note the 3rd crane base is still there on the side, but I'm still not sure where it will go.

You are correct sir.

The third crane base is for a future crane location. One of the two that are currently installed will be taken down and moved to a new "third" location to help with the tower after the base structure is done.

I hope that makes sense.

Thanks for the pictures and I hope I can add a few good ones soon.

Hey Priller.... really like the Black and white photo. Great depth. Using the close-up of the crane for the foreground was perfect!

Good stuff. Yeah, that black and white one is perfect. I like how you can see the construction worker inside the fence with the survey equipment.

Just amazing how fast the Austonian, 4 Seasons and Spring are going up. It's like a race between these sites to get built the fastest. Hey is there a reason they put the floor #s on the side of the building. I almost think it is for the audience of people such as us so we don't try counting the floors as we drive by the site! Hey the crane guy can't see the numbers (most of the time)so that can't be the reason.

What is the reason for the deep cut in the center of the W site. It has water in it now. Is it for a sump pump to keep water out of the building after it is built?

And why was the Four Seasons allowed to build sooo close to the street and into the existing sidewalk. I thought sidewalks could not be obstructed. This building, being so close to the street, does not have enough space left along Cesar Chaves to plant any trees. This building appears to not follow Austins' Great Streets guidelines; and for a high end condo building this does not make sense. Any info?

It's probably the elevator pit and perhaps a little extra depth for a mat footing for the shear walls surrounding the core (if any).

I'm sure it's mainly marketing. I like them, though. When the Austonian was at 16 last week I was walking by with several people and told them, "Just 40 more floors to go!" They seemed astonished by that. They had no idea the building was going to be so tall.

It's the "East Avenue" development, where the new Texas Monthly offices will be, the Andaz Hotel, and more residential and shopping, in a Domain-like complex.

That, and wouldn't a place like that be a problem for St. David's hospital across the street? Traffic-wise? That part of 32nd St. is a narrow road and is used often by emergency vehicles. I don't know how they will accommodate the amount of traffic that place could generate.

Yeah. Those are all over town. Trash cans, fire hydrants, walls, etc. I've never seen it on dirt before though.
