In related news, CIBC announced today that it will open 18 new branches across Canada between now and the start of 2010. One will be located in Hamilton at the Centre Mall, with its opening planned for early 2009.

It won't be a mall after its rebuilt, so they'll have to change the name from Centre Mall to Centre ___________. Any suggestions?

Greater Hamilton Shopping Centre

But I'm sure it'll get a stupid big box name like 'Steelyard Meadows' or 'Red Hill Village' or 'Metal Works Park' or something equally as cheesy and irrelevant to the land it's on (it's no meadow, there is no Park, and it's not really that close to Red Hill, but how many places in TO are called Don Valley Whatever when it's nowhere near the DVP).

Of the few stores still open at the Centre Mall. Will they be staying open till their new locations are finished, does anyone know?

FYI……should keep your visa cards even if you don't have anything on it. Just cut up the card instead and forget about it instead of cancelling it.

By doing that it'll help your credit report, more credit cards you own with a good record will help your standings.

Interesting article in the Spec today:

Quote:
Sears opening part of malls' makeovers

Lisa Grace Marr
The Hamilton Spectator
(Sep 19, 2008)
The opening of the new Sears store at Eastgate Square solidifies the mall's place as a top shopping destination in the city.

That's the view of Don Burton, senior vice-president of the shopping centres group for Redcliff Realty Management.

"They did a great job," he said of the renovations of the old Bay store at the mall. "Obviously Lime Ridge (Mall) is the No. 1 in the region, but Eastgate is also obviously a great alternative. Sears has given a great boost to the property."

Sears' move from its old location at Centre Mall to Eastgate is just the latest in a string of major renovations at the mall, including new stores, an overhaul of the lobby and a new bus transit area.

Centre Mall, also managed by Redcliff, is in the midst of total demolition and rebuild as a series of stand-alone buildings, estimated by some local officials to be worth about $100 million.

The mall's old food court closed last weekend and will reopen in about a year in a building along with community policing and mall administration offices.

Several banks are under construction along Barton Street, with TD expected to open in late November. Shoppers Drug Mart, also located on Barton, is slated to open in January 2009.

Other stores will close and reopen in a kind of domino effect, before the original mall is torn down.

For example, Wayne Roberts, the mall manager, said Zellers will close its old store on Dec. 5 and reopen the next day at its new location at the back of the property. Other changes expected at the mall include the move of Canadian Tire to a new property next to the new Zellers.

Burton said Redcliff is in the midst of acquiring Canadian Tire's store at the corner of Ottawa and Barton streets. Plans for the store will require city approval, he said.

The Barn will close its doors, but another grocery store, Metro (parent company of The Barn) will open near Zellers, Burton said.

Some details about the Centre Mall renovations were included in a notice sent to neighbours in advance of a community meeting organized by Sam Merulla, Ward 4 councillor, on Sept. 30 at 7 p.m. at the Pat Quinn Parkdale Arena on Main Street East. Flooding and other issues were covered in the update.
So there we have it. The grocery store is going to be a Metro as I had suspected, not a Loblaw concept.

I am curious about Redcliffe's plans for the old CTC spot. I wonder what they are planning that would require council approval (I'm assuming in the form of a variance in the zoning).

Don't want to drag this off topic even more, but is that correct?

I've been told in the past that having a pile of credit cards that aren't being used will hurt your chances of getting loans in the future. They have to take those credit limits into account when determining how large of a credit line to extend to you. If you have 6 credit cards for example with zero balance but each with a $2000 limit they have to assume that because the credit is available to you, you could potentialy use it.

My last off topic, for this thread.

Thanks, but my credit rating is stellar. Combinging the limits all the credit cards I carry in my wallet, my total credit exceeds $75K (now only $50K, lol).

I was fed up with their service and when their rep said; sorry he couldn't help with stopping cancellation of my CIBC Aeroplan to replacement with CIBC Infinite, because "that ship had already sailed" (direct quote). I said yes you are right it will be canceled only sooner rather than later, cancel it now. Keeping in mind my wife and I put over $100K (115,000 Aeroplan Miles) on that card for personal and work expenses in only 2.5 years (February 2006 to now), I expected to be treated with a little more respect and accomodation.

It costs $120/year to have that card, so cancelling it makes sense. Now to turn the 115K points into $850 worth of gift cards........

What credit rating do you need to achieve to become an archmage? This is my goal in life.

No, having a pile of credit cards that aren't being used won't hurt your chances of getting a loan or a good mortgage. By holding onto these unused credit cards you are expanding your credit with a clean record, so say you have 4 unused credit cards and each has a limit of $2000, you have $8000 worth of credit with a clean record. This further boost your credit rating.

That's too bad. I was really hoping for a Superstore.

I don't think that part of the land (CTC, Beer Store) is a part of the new development?

I figured it was going to be a Metro too. Which could mean higher prices ugg. Like food costs aren't high enough already.

There will still be 2 Price Choppers in close proximity, and the Ottawa Street Farmers market.

All the Barn locations in the area are going to become Metro stores. The Barn is already expensive, will the switch to Metro make it more so?
