not a corporate presence, but I wouldn't be surprised if there's a local office with a couple of brokers.

I hate that it's dying (maybe), but it's neat that it started in Montgomery.

No one's complaining... yet. It would be more of a proactive step. His Bell St store closed years ago after the housing project was closed. He could really reinvent himself by doing a smaller store in the heart of downtown. The Mt. Meigs store thrived until the Ann St. Walmart was opened. I went there a lot.

Either way, a grocery store downtown will not only benefit from the loft residents, but it will surely be visited by those of us who work downtown!

Trust me, I don't have anything to threaten with. I could actually care less. Just some rumblings I've heard from the usual people.

The grocery store: It's private investment. Greg Calhoun would be private investment. For any private investor to not invest downtown would be by choice...it's non-discriminating.

True. No one's stopping him.
Greg could... if he wanted to... but he hasn't... so just wait on someone who will or can.

This is a great site with excellent pictures of downtown Montgomery. I wish we could get an updated picture on the new Montgomery city website. The new site is really nice, but needs an updated skyline.

The building is at 24 SOUTH PERRY STREET (there is a construction fence in front as well as a big orange dumpster.)

hiijakd, OCA Rep, I enjoyed the forum meet tonight. I'm really glad to hear about the upcoming developments for the alleyway.

It was good to go to the Exchange for dinner since Cucco's closes early.
It's pretty cool to sit out on the patio in the middle of downtown, listening to good music, and watch some of the state's movers-and-shakers come through. The downtown atmosphere can't be beat!

But what was really cool was when David Bronner, cigar and all, walked up with a couple of his buddies and sat a couple of tables away...along with the look of disgust on hiijakd's face...

Can't wait for the next meet.

We did have a great time last night and really enjoyed seeing hiijakd's Perry Street loft now that it has gotten further along.

The vibe and activity around the Exchange was very good... and the surprise of seeing Bronner and his entourage was interesting.

You know how you can walk out of a nice cool building in the summer and are immediately hit with the oppressiveness of really high humidity? Well, the oppressiveness of arrogance coming off Bronner had almost the same effect on all of us last night. We had several minutes of discussion on how great things would be downtown if we were able to use the RSA's money and the guy running the show (Bronner) would listen, "get" the big picture, and would work in the best interest of the entire city and not just for his latest Taj Mahal.

Just imagine the possibilities...
