Sobey's could probably do an urban format there if they turned their interest to Hamilton. They have some pretty small stores in Toronto.

If they were really smart they'd open up a grocery store in the middle of the sea of apartment buildings in Durand.. or even somewhere along Main or King in that area..

About the grocery store, there is an asian grocery store on Locke street you should check out, just north of the main drag on the right side. They have a lot of fish at the back so its a tad smelly at times, but they have a lot of the regular fresh produce at really good prices.

We've done some shopping there, though not much. The tea and fish we bought there were fine, but our produce actually smelled like fish when we got it home (and retained the smell) - not too appetizing for us, so we stopped going there for most of our stuff. Perhaps it was just older produce? If the organic place was actually open on Sundays, or if it even expanded, that would suffice for my tastes (though perhaps not the pocketbook - oh well, can't have everything

).

A new grocery store needs to go in the Main/Hess/Bay area.
The Courtyard is awesome, but lacking in the menu department.
The mugs, I believe, are made by the owners father.

Oh, and one more thing: wow. This is Hamilton? I moved away in 2004, and never saw the festival that crowded before. I guess things are getting better. This picture looks like it could be in Toronto or Montreal.

The crowds were showing up even in the rain (that's when I arrived).

Looks like a great turnout on Locke St. Several of the festivals around Hamilton I was able to attend this year had great turnouts.

yea, what's the deal with Westitalia?? I've only been a couple times and never went back because it seems so lame.

^^ First of all, it's in Westdale.
Maybe it would be a lil more genuinely Italian if it were at James North or even the Barton & Sherman area. I seem to remember that being a popular Italian gathering spot for World Cup activities when I went to Cathedral.

Especialy since Italians were persona non grata when the Westdale neighborhood was built. We've come a long way since the 1920's.

Canadian born Italians were ok, but no new arrivals.

I think the Westitalia theme was chosen to tie in with Festitalia. I agree, it does seem like an odd fit for Westdale. Perhaps it's time for a new theme, but not before I win the Vespa.

^^ Vespas look good in Bartonville.
I see them every now and then, and it makes the hood that much more Euro.

So when you win it, you should let them know you'll be using it to zip up-and-down James North -- where the Festival SHOULD BE!
