Yochicago has an interview with the architect of the Mondial posted. It's somewhat interesting - when you can hear it. There is so much background noise, it's rather excruciating to sit through, but there is some info there for the high-rise junkie.

Apparently the Staybridge Suites did, too, given that it's completely a dead site right now, no crane, no portable toilets ...

This will be fun to clean during the winter.

Blending in well with the parking garage - such lofty goals.

^ Thanks for the shots, as always.

Was the south side painted, or am I just seeing the lighting? The facade patterns read better now and it doesn't look quite as dismal as it did before. I don't think in the end that I'll mind the building too much. The larger expanses of glazing just now going in help a lot.

Ramming speed - I hope the new buyers like chocolate - the smell from Blommers can be pretty strong, this towtruck pulled away a stalled tanker truck.

Still a bit more to go.

The hot dog stand at Fairbanks and Ohio is closing for good next week. Hopefully that will mean a dancing banana (see the 560 Fairbanks thread; hope it's that project). (Sorry, couldn't find any dancing hot dogs.)

Say, does anybody know if any of these fine buildings are landmarked, or if any of them are threatened? Honte?

^ None of them are, although most were featured in a Preservation Chicago Seven most endangered nomination several years back. That proposed district came one year after PC nominated the Lower River North District (now being considered for protection, so perhaps we'll get lucky twice).

I would consider most of these to be highly threatened, because 1) the city has earmarked this area for massive density (a good thing, but if unchecked, not so good), and 2) they are mostly still in a single ownership structure. Of course, they are directly in the line of downtown expansion. Think how nice this area could be if they were kept and all of that density put into taller buildings.

Sorry to keep asking, but has anyone checked Marquee Michigan Avenue in the last 3 months to see if it's finished? Also how about the north tower of Emerald?

the Marquee is complete. I just switched it in Emporis

I will have to get over to Emerald on Friday when I'm off.
