"Sandy city officials have secured $21 million in federal funds to rebuild the dilapidated but busy 1300 East corridor between 7800 South and 10600 South."

Rebuild??? Dilapidated???

Sandy snobbishness never ceases to amaze! Looks like all it needs is a fresh coat of slurry seal to me!

"We believe this is the finest transportation system in Salt Lake County," Dolan said.
What the hell? Has he ever driven around his own city?

I guess that's what you get when you spend big bucks on lobbyists:
http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_qn4188/is_20051025/ai_n15717163

(Sandy spends more on lobbyists than any other municipality in the state.)

The money would be much better spent fixing the disaster that 3300 S. has become since Questar tore it to bits and patched it back together, but I'm guessing that Millcreek township didn't spend hundreds of thousands of dollars on federal lobbyists last year to help them "secure" such funding.

My favorite are the before and after renderings:

They'll be using the $20+ million to plant a tree in the median and add a white car to the shot.
Leave it to Dolan to lobby for federal pork spending to make a perfectly good road prettier while ignoring the looming traffic nightmare on and around State St.

Ditto. The 3300 South really deserves some fixing up.

You forgot the $5 Million dollar black street light in the background.

What a complete waste of taxpayers money. Not only is sandy development impacting the entire county or state, but now the entire country. why don't you pitch for projects that are actually going to help your city Tom. And the best transportation system in the county? What a joke. Has he ever driven in a part of the county that has a true, uninterrupted and connected grid? He will probably get a bonus just for saying that.

Sadly, it's the system that is broken and Tom Dolan has just gotten really good at manuevering and posturing to get anything that he wants.

Its really sad that the Federal Gov't is paying for 86% of this worthless project whilst bridges and roads elsewhere are in such disrepair that they are falling to pieces and killing people.

County leaders oppose toll on Mountain View Corridor

http://www.deseretnews.com/article/1,5143,700255165,00.html

Salt Lake County leaders are dead set against tolling the Mountain View Corridor.

On Tuesday, the Salt Lake County Council will consider a joint resolution with Mayor Peter Corroon urging lawmakers to find other funding options for the west-side highway. Several west-side cities have already passed similar resolutions.

Coalition for Accountable Government????

Has anyone read the article from from today's Salt Lake Tribune: " Watchdog Group Says Commuter Rail Not Worth Tax Payers Investement"? The on-line version was just two paragraphs, citing the source of the information--The Coalition for Accountable Government--and that this group believes money would be better spent building more roads. Sure like to know the credentials of this group and what data they are citing. Sounds like something out of talk radio or the Davis County Clipper rather than a reputable source.

Some of the highlights from the article:

Quote:
''We can put an end to this debate once and for all,'' said Drew Chamberlain, a former copy-machine repairman now in the used-car business with the Coalition for Accountable Government.
Quote:
Chamberlain says the only solution to traffic is to build more roads.
''The real losers are us, because we sit in traffic,'' he said. ''By using money for rail, we are ensuring gridlock in the future.''
So the best source the Trib. could find is a half-crazy used car salesman? I can't beleive that anybody saw this man's rant as something that was fit to print. This guy makes Paul Mero look good by comparison. What a joke.

The Coalition for Accountable Government is based out of a house in S. Jordan, and has the same address as "Alpine Copier Sales and Service":

4013 W. Yorkshire
So. Jordan
Utah
84095

I'm pretty sure this 'organization' is just some angry guy in his basment with an internet connection and a bone to pick. Maybe I'll start my own thinktank..... it doesn't look like KSL and the SL Tribune are very picky when it comes to who they'll label an "expert" on a subject.

Yeah I found this story laughable. As an 'expert' in local news I say the Tribune 🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵- dying a slow and inevitable death in recent years the Trib is staking it all on trying to make tabloid journalism look like news. Sad because if you've ever read the Deseret News propaganda machine (which is also getting pretty cheesy) you know how badly an alternative news source is needed around here. I dare say the only thing the Trib has going for it is they don't censor my comments like the Deseret News does.

Wasden: Thought as much. Too bad about the SL Tribune. Once upon a time, it was a pretty good newspaper.

More and more, the Deseret News reads like the New Era and the Tribune reads like a tabloid. I wish there were a better option in Salt Lake. Since moving to Davis Co., we've started taking the Standard Examiner instead. It's a bit small town-ish for my taste, but it's still better than the Tribune or Deseret News.

Got this off of the UDOT web site. I am surprised nobody has posted anything of it before.

Ragerdude, Welcome, and a very cool moniker too. I'm a big dog lover...Saints, Boxers and Cockers mostly. Also, thanks for the Corridor heads-up.

Thanks for the welcome delts. I actually drew that wolf. I have been reading this forum for a very long time, got fed up with not being able to access its contents at peak times, and joined up. Just a few questions to everyone out there...

1.) why aren't the diagrams updated in the skyscraper diagrams pages for salt lake?
2.) Why doesn't anyone here help to update the 3d buildings for salt lake and its surrounding areas on google earth using sketchup?
3.) more specific to this thread, why isn't TRAX and Frontrunner on google earth?

...ok, I'm done ranting.

UDOT looks to make roads bicycle-friendly

During the next few months, UDOT will evaluate roads in the state to prioritize potential bicycle improvements.

I don't know what's up with that. I wouldn't doubt that attempts have been made, as with Emporis.

Welcome to the forum and I have been wondering that myself for the longest time. People must think SLC is really small when they go to that diagram and only see about 18 buildings listed. What a joke. SLC has at least 50 buildings they could list. Also there isn't any of the new CCC Towers listed.
I don't think it's been updated since 2002 when we first heard about 222 South Main.
